Here's what my team has been up to lately: a new way of organizing concert dates at Google. If you know a touring musician, or someone who builds websites for one, please share this with them so they can be included!

p.s. It's not every day you get to include a Fishbone screenshot and a geeky Stevie Wonder pun in an official Google blog post. That's a good day.

End times for academia?
"Put all these pieces together, and of course attendance costs will ascend at a head-swimming clip, reaching $60,000 a year now at some private schools. Of course young people will be saddled with life-crushing amounts of debt; of course the university will use its knowledge of them—their list of college choices, their campus visits, their hopes for the future—to extract every last possible dollar from the teenage mark and her family. It is lambs trotting blithely to the slaughter. It is the utterly predictable fruits of our simultaneous love affairs with College and the Market. It is the same lesson taught us by so many other disastrous privatizations: in our passion for entrepreneurship and meritocracy, we forgot that maybe the market wasn’t the solution to all things."

It is very hard to argue with this, and even harder to say you don't have the time to watch it.

Thanks Laurie! Yes, Data Highlighter and the new Structured Data Markup Helper are very nifty ways to get started telling Google and the world about your website's structured data. We'll be posting more about these tools once the excitement of #io13 cools down a bit next week.
The tools announced today at #io13 for structured data are really reaching the point where they're indistinguishable from magic. Don't want to enter the tags yourself? No problem - - take a few minutes to train the tool and it will figure it out, if you have decently structured HTML.

Here's another good reason for decently formatted HTML.
