"Each of the sites selected has demonstrated the motivation, collaboration, and commitment needed to make real change in their local justice systems." -- MacArthur Foundation
We're excited to be part of the The Safety and Justice Challenge by the MacArthur Foundation. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office led the joint application process that included input and buy-in from various Memphis and Shelby County government agencies, including the Shelby County Public Defender's Office.
The MacArthur Foundation officially announced Shelby County as one of 20 sites chosen for the grant.
This critical funding and technical assistance stage will allow our community to start building a plan to decrease overuse and misuse of our jail. The Safety and Justice Challenge was designed to create fairer and more effective criminal justice systems.
