Jason Mayes originally shared to General Geekiness / Fun:

You never forget how to ride a bike right? Wrong. You can actually unlearn something as proved by this awesome experiment by the guy at #SmarterEveryDay . Also it demonstrates how kids have more neuro plasticity than adults. A really interesting watch. Oh, and I am sure many of you gamers have already experienced this. Just play BF4 or Elite Dangerous, and then invert all the axis for flying - you will be crashing all the time!

Did you know? The risk of waterborne disease in earthquake affected districts in Nepal is drastically increasing due to limited access to safe water and sanitation.

Awesome stuff. If you're in the area, go check it out in person <3

Here is a small 4x4 painting I donated to the upcoming fundraiser to be held at The Brush Art Gallery here in #Lowell MA. This event is gonna be a good one to attend plus it will be a great chance to mingle with the #artists in Lowell!  Come out if you can!

Here is more info from their website:
“The Four By Four raises funds for #UMass Lowell #Art Scholarship. This scholarship is granted to a deserving University of Massachusetts student majoring in the visual arts.
We asked visual artists to create a 4” by 4” work of art. The Brush Art Gallery provided a blank, stretched canvas. Artists created artwork with whatever media and materials they preferred.

The Event: The day of the event, guests buy tickets to the fundraiser and everyone leaves with a work of art. Names are drawn at random and your place in line is determined by the drawing. Be prepared with a list of choices.

Tickets are $25 and are purchased at the door.”
The +Brush Art Gallery & Studios  is located on 256 Market Street, Lowell MA 01852

Well said. Don't play into the hands of any manipulative buttface. And yeah, maybe focusing on swapping recipes is not such a bad idea. I don't have many, but the few recipes I do have are quite good <3

"Free speech is now being used as an excuse to provoke, which is not what those who espoused the idea in the first place had in mind. But here the “insane” terrorists are doing a better job, because they haven’t deluded themselves that the other side will back down: they’re counting on us to lash out. They’re counting on us to churn out, in a show of defiance, yet more cartoons and articles designed to vilify entire belief systems, and by extension demonise sincere adherents to those belief systems; they are deliberately planting in our minds the idea of Islam as inherently violent and murderous, and therefore dangerous, so that we will drive them out of town and into the welcoming arms of IS.

And they are succeeding. In this war, we are already losing the first battle. That first battle is not for our freedom of speech, it is for our hearts and minds.

[...]

This is where we must begin: by refusing to draw battle lines. The terrorists want us to demonise Muslims en masse. Let us instead meet Muslims individually, and swap recipes. Our salvation lies, I am quite certain, in the example of housewives who just want to help out."

I took note. Maybe I, too, am capable of growing my brain...

Don't tell your kids it's smart.
HINT: Don't tell your kids that they are. More than three decades of research shows that a focus on “process”—not on intelligence or ability—is key to success in school and in life

WTF of the day

WTF? David Cameron vows to ban TLS (and any other type of encryption MI5 can't read) if reelected.

Yes, he said that.
The Tory leader said: 'If I am prime minister I will make sure that it is a comprehensive piece of legislation that does not allow terrorists safe space to communicate with eachother'

Pretty sure that there are enough people who don't care or know what tls is to get him reelected.

Ja.

Standing for free speech is not American. It is logical. If one allows a government to control—to censor—offensive speech, then no speech will be allowed, except that which government approves, for any speech can offend anyone and then all speech is controlled.
After the Charlie Hebdo murders, I tweeted about the attack on free speech that had just been perpetrated, about my hope…

Amazing cakes, pastries, and ice cream. The cakes and pastries always surprised us by surpassing our expectations. The ice cream was maybe the best I have tasted in a long time, the strawberry ice cream was basically like eating fresh fruit in ice cream form. The staff was always very friendly and patient with our little one even if he kept running around their small shop.
