Electron microscope video of phonograph needle in an LP groove. About 1/400 actual speed. Captured via Tektronix MDO3000 oscilloscope.

This video was made via the "stop motion" animation technique.  I moved the LP by 50 microns at a time, and captured a frame after each move. The setup inside the microscope was made possible by the fact that there are two separate stages with their own motion controls. I fixed the needle to one stage and the LP to the other so that I could get both parts into the frame at a good angle.

Always thought jQuery was overkill for most stuff.

Do you use jQuery? Well it had its time and purpose, but you may find that smaller lighter weight libraries such as #lodash, #underscore, or #sizzle are actually all you need... Do you really use the whole API each time? I thought not. Check out these great libs below:

1) Sizzle - DOM selection - maybe you need to support older browsers that cant use querySelectorAll? Sizzle is essentially what jQuery uses to fetch DOM selections using CSS like selectors. http://sizzlejs.com/

2) LoDash - a JavaScript utility library delivering consistency, modularity, performance and more. Check their documentation for a a whole host of useful functions https://lodash.com

3) Underscore - A library providing a useful helpers without extending any built in objects. Be productive immediately! http://underscorejs.org/

Jason Mayes originally shared to General Geekiness / Fun:

You never forget how to ride a bike right? Wrong. You can actually unlearn something as proved by this awesome experiment by the guy at #SmarterEveryDay . Also it demonstrates how kids have more neuro plasticity than adults. A really interesting watch. Oh, and I am sure many of you gamers have already experienced this. Just play BF4 or Elite Dangerous, and then invert all the axis for flying - you will be crashing all the time!

Did you know? The risk of waterborne disease in earthquake affected districts in Nepal is drastically increasing due to limited access to safe water and sanitation.

Awesome stuff. If you're in the area, go check it out in person <3

Here is a small 4x4 painting I donated to the upcoming fundraiser to be held at The Brush Art Gallery here in #Lowell MA. This event is gonna be a good one to attend plus it will be a great chance to mingle with the #artists in Lowell!  Come out if you can!

Here is more info from their website:
“The Four By Four raises funds for #UMass Lowell #Art Scholarship. This scholarship is granted to a deserving University of Massachusetts student majoring in the visual arts.
We asked visual artists to create a 4” by 4” work of art. The Brush Art Gallery provided a blank, stretched canvas. Artists created artwork with whatever media and materials they preferred.

The Event: The day of the event, guests buy tickets to the fundraiser and everyone leaves with a work of art. Names are drawn at random and your place in line is determined by the drawing. Be prepared with a list of choices.

Tickets are $25 and are purchased at the door.”
The +Brush Art Gallery & Studios  is located on 256 Market Street, Lowell MA 01852

Introduction
If the Jun you're looking for is Japanese, you might have found the right one. I'm a foolish geek who loves good food, video games, gadgets, and fun times with chainsaws.

While you probably won't believe me, I am not a coffee addict, I just couldn't find better pictures to upload... yet.

I manage, code, support, translate, and divide zeroes for a living.

Amazing cakes, pastries, and ice cream. The cakes and pastries always surprised us by surpassing our expectations. The ice cream was maybe the best I have tasted in a long time, the strawberry ice cream was basically like eating fresh fruit in ice cream form. The staff was always very friendly and patient with our little one even if he kept running around their small shop.
