Finding A Good Fit For Your Skills

When I coach a job seeker to find positions that are a good fit, I ask what the job seeker is looking for in the next role. Get rid of desperation and focus on the job traits and details that make you, the job seeker happy. I use a variety of tools and my own brand of analytical and intuitive questioning to parse out what the job seeker really wants — and what he or she doesn’t want.

Is leadership important? (Some people thrive in leadership roles and would struggle in a role that puts them in a powerless position. Others have no desire to lead, they want to keep stress low and don’t want the responsibility of leadership.) I never assume that everyone is looking to keep climbing into management and upper management. Some people don’t want to be in a position of authority. Leadership is a skill that needs constant coaching and review.
Do you consider your resume powerful? Do you consider it massively powerful? Most people will answer "No." One reason most resumes fall short of the mark of even a "good" resume is that they stray too far in the direction of duties. Simply put, most resumes are boring and fall short of telling the stories…

When we decide we hate something, it blocks our ability to think clearly. For example, think about the person who says they hate vegetables but they haven't even tried the diverse array of vegetables or the many ways of serving them. These vegetable haters just hate vegetables because they are vegetables. A long time ago,…

Resume writing is all about learning to capture the challenges. Most people don't think in these terms. They think of resumes in terms of duties. What employers are looking for is what challenges you faced that match the kinds of challenges they have with their organization. They are looking for problem solvers, people who have…

How Most People View Contracting
Many people narrowly think that contract workers are only people employed through agencies for short-term work, and tend to think in the lines of administrative support or manufacturing as the two main roles contract workers fill.

As a professional resume writer with many years in the career industry, I work with many people who have been contract workers and others who would think they would like to join the ranks. You would be surprised to find out that there is a broad scope of industries and job titles that have contract workers in their midst.
12 industries or fields that use contractors or freelancers to get work done, and this list is not complete.

Actionable steps to rejection in your #jobsearch
Rejection of any kind is hard. We don't like to be rejected or told we didn't measure up. When you are in a job search mode and you make it through multiple interviews to one of two or three candidates, no one wants to be told they are the runner-up. When they get that far,…

The secrets to quality resume writing are clear to professional resume writers but pretty foggy to most job seekers. It is a confusing array of advice just across the Internet and even more confusing if you throw in advice from job centers, career centers, and instructors that include resume writing as an assignment. Why Your Career Survival May Depend On Positive Google Results

Never before in history has so much information been so easily accessible. Employers will Google before they hire. In fact, some of the online applications launch an immediate search on Google and all social media when you click submit. Do you really want to take chances that the results will be favorable or do you want to take control of your results?

Be careful out there!
Never before in the history of the world can we communicate more quickly to more people. Social media is a great tool but it is also a great way to create chaos and potentially cause yourself harm. While Twitter can be equally dangerous, Facebook is a tool but if you don't pay attention to what…

You know the definition of insanity, right? Or at least the one most commonly quoted, attributed to Albert Einstein: Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I ask you then, what do you plan to do differently in 2015? Many people struggle with being in a rut. We want…

Creating successful career marketing strategies just for you!
Introduction
Writer first, resume writer second, I honed my skills in writing through building a business in resume writing (Designresumes.com) which opened the door to new opportunities.

I deliver very personal, collaborative career marketing services. My clients work directly with me and I break the rules and write while the client interacts and provides input.

The magic of Skype and technology allows me to, share my screen with clients halfway around the globe and create that same feeling of being part of the process! The Select your resume package is designed to clearly show you the choice in services.

The intuitive way I collaborate with my clients helps resolve issues and find ways to reach both career management goals and personal life goals. My clients feel safe while also I challenge them to share both their wins and their losses in life.

My personal passions are many. As a Christian with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you will also see me post information related to my faith.

As you can tell from the photos on my profile, I love German Shepherds. Buddy is our second German Shepherd and he is the office companion. His assignments for the local clients is to "watch for the client and let me know when they have arrived." He does it well.

Technology and I have always been good friends and so both my business and personal fun is found through using technology.

I love to garden and we have both a large vegetable garden in the background and a large rock bed that cascades down our front lawn. My husband and I have been gardening ever since we were married 32+ years ago.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you. If you have questions about career services or just want to chat, feel free!

We have had our fence for more than a year now. Buddy is our second German Shepherd and we didn't have one with Teddy. Buddy broke a tie-out run within two weeks after we got him and we knew we needed a fence. A physical fence wouldn't work well in our yard and so we invested in a Pet Stop Fence. Brad was so good with Buddy in the training phase and has not run through the back yard fence since November 2012 when it was first installed and we were setting the right level. He loves the freedom in the yard and I love the confidence that I have knowing that my dog is safe. Teddy ran away multiple times when he was between 1 and 3 years of age. Buddy has never run away and the fence is the reason. I would recommend Pet Stop by Pro Hidden Fence to all dog owners. If it works with a German Shepherd, it will work with your dog.

I've been a member of Wesley UMC for about 17 years. When I first joined, I had been a Lutheran for 40 years so it was a huge transition. I have always been happy at Wesley but since Pastor Tim came, I have been happier. His preaching style and delivery are excellent and I go away with a message for the week. The pastor is an important person in the church but Wesley is made up with a congregation of Christ-filled and talented people. From music to acting, Bible teaching to youth leading, community focus to mission focus, Wesley truly feels like my church home and church family.

The Helke Funeral Home has been the choice of funeral homes for my family as long as I can remember. My husband's family also has made this the funeral home of choice. I have always been pleased with the comfort and concern by all of the staff members. While the death of a loved one is never easy, having people who you trust in charge of your arrangements is very comforting.

I've eaten many meals at Red Eye Brewing Co. and all of them have been excellent. Today was a stop for lunch with a young neighbor and I had the soup special which was Chicken Dumpling. The dumplings were obviously homemade (and Tasty) but I especially liked the fact that our server informed us that the chicken was local. My entree was the Bada Bing Wrap which I have always wanted to try but usually gravitate to something else. It was very tasty with just enough kick. Red Eye is always fun and when I choose to sample their beers, they always are a treat!
