What astonishes me is how little mention there is of this in other media. I combed through the Globe and the Star today and found not a single mention...

Unbelievable!

Amazon granted patent on taking photographs in front of a white background.

Caveat: I have not had time to review the actual patent to see if this article overstates things. Anyone who does, please post here.

An entrepreneur passionately interested in Canadian small business, innovation and exploring new things and ideas
Introduction
I'm a Canadian entrepreneur interested in small business, technology, innovation and the web. I started my first company, a multimedia production studio, in 1996 and went on to form Biz-Zone Internet Group Inc., a tech company that creates web software and publishes two websites: CanadaOne.com and StouffvilleConnects.com.
Bragging rights
Dot.com survivor: CanadaOne is one of the few websites to survive the dot.com meltdown in 2000.

My experience here was mixed. First, let me say all the staff I dealt with were excellent. I checked into my first room and because the lamp switch was broken they gave me an upgrade, no questions asked. That room unfortunately must have had a heavily perfumed carpet wash, and when I complained they again offered to change me. At that point I decided to try to air out the room (not realizing the windows didn't open) so stayed. My selection was based on two important variables: the hotel was 2.5 km from my work meetings and was a great price with breakfast and parking included. For the price, what I got was above what you would expect. However, I'm used to getting similar online deals at much nicer places, and the bottom line is that there is a shabby overtone to the overall hotel. It's like they want to be a great hotel, but don't have the budget for repairs and upgrades. My second room was actually quite decent, although the bed was obviously very well used with dips worn into the mattress from where heavier people had slept over time. The room was quite clean, but smelled heavily of perfume and the windows didn't open. (The first room smelled fine.) There was something broken in each room. In the first it was the lamp, the second it was the desk chair, which a maintenance person was able to fix. If you get an online deal and need an okay place to stay, for the price this is still worth considering. However, when I go back I'll pay more and opt for a longer work commute to enjoy the benefit of a hotel walking distance to many downtown attractions.
