Took a look at the creative ways brands are using tech and storytelling to offer enhanced brand experiences for Portada. Here are some of my top picks from #SXSW2015. Interesting how both live, unedited and highly produced work well. I think the takeaway is that you need to know your audience and what they care about. Happy Friday!

South by Southwest 2015 (SXSW) recently took place in Austin, Texas. The SXSW Interactive portion of the program is a bit like spring break for technologists, interactive content producers, and digital marketers. The technology, creative campaigns and startups who receive attention at SXSW are usually good indicators of the important trends to watch in the…

I met Steve Goodman because our kids are in school together. I knew he was an expert on college education and part of the top colleges team. I didn’t know that he was a songwriter who uses songs to advocate on educational issues. I knew the LATISM familia would be interested in his latest song, “Let Julio Study” focused on Dreamers and their pursuit of a higher education!

Steve's story on the LATISM blog!

+GirlsWhoCode  is now recruiting for the 2015 Summer Immersion Program! This is a great program. Please share!

Girls Who Code, a national non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology, is now recruiting for the 2015 Summer Immersion Program. The organization encourages high school girls currently in 10th and 11th grade to apply, regardless of prior experience or exposure to computer science. They are looking for students with a passion for technology and a desire to learn!

The Summer Immersion Program is an unforgettable 7-week course that pairs computer science education with field trips to top tech companies and mentorship from amazing women in the industry. Throughout the summer, girls get a chance to learn everything from mobile app development to robotics to web design, and ultimately build the products they want to see in the world. Last Summer, young women got a chance to hear from guest speakers like Sheryl Sandberg, Jack Dorsey, Dick Costolo, and even Chelsea Clinton!

Girls Who Code embeds classrooms of 20 girls each in technology companies and universities across the country to create a fun, collaborative environment for girls to learn to computer science while becoming immersed in the technology industry. The 2015 Summer Immersion Program will be open to girls in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Mountain View, New York City, Newark, Palo Alto, San Francisco, San Jose, San Ramon, Seattle, Springfield, MA, and Washington, DC.

The program is FREE for students, and transportation stipends are available for students with limited financial resources.

Interested girls should use the link www.girlswhocode.com/applynow to apply today. The application is open as of January 15th and will close on February 12th.

I moderated a panel about how to effectively use mobile marketing in the Hispanic market at the Latinos in Social Media [LATISM] conference this year.

Given that Hispanics are 10% more likely to own smartphones, spend 1.5 hours more time watching online video and are 11% more likely to access the Internet on mobile, it’s important that Hispanic marketers get mobile marketing right.

Here is my panel recap post published on Portada, with the top takeaways from the panelist from +MocoSpace , +Sensis, +Tu Vision Canal LLC and Dewey Square:

A New Community Check-in with +MocoSpace !

A key finding was that even within MocoSpace’s mobile savvy community, Hispanic Millennials over-indexed on consuming most or all of their entertainment via a mobile device, 66% versus 54% for non-Hispanics.

As we get into the 2014 holiday season, Hispanic Millennials represent a prime mobile marketing opportunity for the entertainment industry. Half (50%) of Hispanic Millennials expect to purchase entertainment gifts this holiday.
