What the Tech Industry Has Learned from Linus Torvalds
It is amazing to think how a lot of successful companies started of in a garage or a dorm room

I wish more people could see the world through the eyes of people like Linus Torvalds, Dries Buytaert, Mark Shuttleworth, Chris Wanstrath etc.

People who realize that the key to success isn't simply charging people more money but that innovation, insight and creativity is more important ingredients to success.

My Hydroponic Oregano
Time to make some pizza

I need to adjust the feed a bit looks like I'm just getting green vegetative growth. Although the smell is quite pungent and strong so I guess it is acceptable for kitchen use.

"Margot Wallström, the Swedish foreign minister, denounced the subjugation of women in Saudi Arabia. As the theocratic kingdom prevents women from travelling, conducting official business or marrying without the permission of male guardians, and as girls can be forced into child marriages where they are effectively raped by old men, she was telling no more than the truth. Wallström went on to condemn the Saudi courts for ordering that Raif Badawi receive ten years in prison and 1,000 lashes for setting up a website that championed secularism and free speech. [...]

"Saudi Arabia withdrew its ambassador and stopped issuing visas to Swedish businessmen. The United Arab Emirates joined it. The Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, which represents 56 Muslim-majority states, accused Sweden of failing to respect the world’s ‘rich and varied ethical standards’ — standards so rich and varied, apparently, they include the flogging of bloggers and encouragement of paedophiles"
If the cries of ‘Je suis Charlie’ were sincere, the western world would be convulsed with worry and anger about the Wallström affair. It has all the ingredients for a… Read more

I love modern Desktops. Of all the Desktop software running on Linux I found Gnome 3 to be the most functional for my personal needs. The only peeve I had was sometimes it was a bit harsh on resources and had some issues with running multiple monitors on my notebook's gpu.

But I am definitely going to give this another try.

I just happened to sit in bed last night logged in via SSH into a Raspberry Pi coding in Python a Dialog interface for AWS ec2 using boto in Vi on my tablet till 3am. Worked like a charm. Although I think it would have been difficult it I did not use Hackers Keyboard.

David Eagleman: Can we create new senses for humans? #TED : http://on.ted.com/d0nGv
As humans, we can perceive less than a ten-trillionth of all light waves. “Our experience of reality,” says neuroscientist David Eagleman, “is constrained by our biology.” He wants to change that. His research into our brain processes has led him to create new interfaces — such as a sensory vest — to take in previously unseen information about the world around us.

This is exactly why musicians can feed off the energy of their audience. It is a sense that makes you experience their feelings. This works both ways though, whether they love or hate you.

Emotiv EEG System
One of the best and almost affordable mobile EEG systems

Tan Le's company is definitely on the right track.  This is the most perfect wearable to create projects with, the possibilities is endless.

I can just imagine using this device in conjunction with some clusters of servers running on something like AWS or Google Cloud Platform with Machine Learning maybe using something like R or scikit-learn
 in Python.

Maybe even using Deep Learning to identify the best mental and emotional states to perform specific tasks.

Also the possibility to control devices or software with mere thought, it is a makers dream finally a great use for all those Arduino and Raspberry Pi devices out there. For me personally it is the ultimate sensor device. Especially for making a lot of things accessible for disabled people.

I don't care if I have to eat only rice and drink only water for a few weeks but I will be acquiring this device, it is compatible with Android, iOS, Mac, Linux and Windows Platforms and comes with SDK's.

I can't wait to see where this is going.

So sad.
DOUGLASDALE – Shocking footage has been added to LiveLeak.com which allegedly shows police officers refusing to assist a resident, who wanted to open a case against a police officer, at the Douglasdale Police Station, after he allegedly refused to identify himself.

Minecraft Weekend Project
Sometimes we need to have some fun on the weekend

So I decided not to spend too much time on my Arduinos and Raspberry Pi projects this weekend and simply kick back with a nice relaxing Minecraft project.

This is a little Inn I'm attempting to build with some farms around it. It also has some secrets.

LibreCAD Free Open Source CAD Application

Last time I ever drawed anything technical was in High School with pencil and paper. This is a great app for designing a few things to make for DIY projects

I am sure it is capable of a lot more than I will probably ever use it for. It is great to see a Open Source alternative that can run on Linux as well.

I tried making some designs for enclosures and mountings for my electronics projects in Inkscape but LibreCAD seems much more suited to the task. Once you get used to the interface it is quite easy to use.

It seems all the stuff I learned in school still applies except for ditching the drawing board and pencils for something a bit more digital.

Every now and then they decide to pollute my neighborhood with noise. And that irritating siren every day. They have no regard for people living in the neighborhood.
