“Sometimes it is better to pretend,” said one senior interior ministry official. “To say that these don’t work says that we don’t have anything better. The people need some sort of reassurance.”

I bought an eBook.

Following the embedded links requires having two devices, one to open the book and another one with a camera to scan the QR code, or, alternatively, a person parsing a blurry rendition of the link and typing it manually.

This reminds me of when I worked at a company whose corporate communications where snapshot images of PowerPoint slides, including non-clickable pictures of hyperlinks.

Is it trolling if it's unintended?

Probably just it started as a printed book, and somebody published the ebook version untouched. Not sure if also it's a intended thing as some people could read it in low-end readers without internet access and forcing to use another device that has it almost certainly.

Got the PWM chip (NCP5623) assimilated yesterday and now the backlight can use any in 32k colours.

Software modding pending.

Thanks again +German Galkin for the help with the SMD process.

So I was using this display

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/7-Mode-RGB-Backlight-FSTN-Negative-Mode-RGB-on-Black-162-16X2-1602-Character-LCD-Module/1675598822.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.28.pRDKKb&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_2_79_78_77_82_80_62,searchweb201644_0,searchweb201560_3

via the i2c connection scheme suggested by LCDProc:

http://lcdproc.sourceforge.net/docs/lcdproc-0-5-7-user.html#hd44780-i2c

with some modifications to keep the LEDs anode-common, rather than cathode common, because of how the leds are wired in the display, and because I didn't have any PNP transistor at hand.

I used some jumpers to be able to divert the LED cathodes to the new chip eventually.

The new chip plugs into the same I2C bus, and provides current control for three LEDs (the same current for the three), while also providing independent PWM control for each one, so you can choose the color.

I was too invested in a prototype board to try to replace it with a real PCB (but I can provide some designs for that, if you are interested), so I waited for the TSSOP-to-DIP adaptor to arrive, and with German's help it's now integrated (I killed two NCP5623 trying to hand-solder them before).

Right now I have four i2cset lines in my rc.local (one for the current setting, three RGB PWM values) setting the color at boot time.

BanaNAS grew an LCD display. I plan to use it to display information on BTRFS and SMART status, and about pending download jobs too. Right now it's just running standard LCDproc.

The backlight is actually RGB, but I'm waiting for an I2C LED driver chip to arrive, so right now you just choose among 7 basic colors via jumpers (and yellow is the appropriate one).

I'll have to modify LCDproc to handle multiple colors somehow.

Kudos to +German Galkin for his crash course into CAD/CAM and help with milling the replacement box top with the window for the LCD.

Very tasty food. Novel variations on the classic Sevillian tapas. The octopus with boletus sauce, the tuna with salmorejo or the tenderloin with whiskey sauce are clear winners. A little bit pricey, but the price is in line with the quality.

Pizzas muy ricas (recomiendo la Diavola cambiando las aceitunas por pepperoni) y precios muy razonables. El local prácticamente carece de decoración, pero es que si puedes lo mejor es pedir las pizzas a casa.
