This was my experience exactly! I'm so glad this is starting to get more attention!
The idea that depression and other mental health conditions are caused by an imbalance of chemicals (particularly serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain is so deeply ingrained in our collective...

Whoa!

"What makes the picture particularly strong is that except for the cloud, the rest of the scene is quite ordinary," says Director of Photography Dan Westergren, one of this year's judges, of the winning photo by Marko Korošec.

Made Tabouli Salad for lunch and was delighted to see my mint still kicking in the garden! Not too bad for November!

This article really resonated with me! I think it's rare that I read something I agree with so much.
Rejection is rough, no matter how you slice it. But it's also an inescapable fact of life, and our ability to deal with failure and rejection has a hand in determining how successful and happy we are. Happiness isn't the opposite of depression -- resilience is, according to psychologist Peter Kramer.

“I got grateful when I got fired. I said ‘How many people get to get fired and it’s on the front page of The Wall Street Journal?’”

Sallie had a point there. 99% of the people on this planet would do anything to have her life, even on the day she got fired.

It's easy to get stuck in comparing yourself to a peer group (like other absurdly well-paid executives), and decide that things aren't going well, even when life is really a bowl of freakin' cherries!

Interesting application of data science.

A study of 150,000 historical figures shows cities have long acted as cultural magnets.
A massive births and deaths database reveals that cultural figures have migrated to cities in the same way for centuries.

"A casserole is mainly an American dish that is cooked in a French pan. A cassoulet is a French dish usually cooked in a Dutch oven. Makes perfect sense, right?"

Love it!

Stark, but entirely believable from what I've seen of the startup world.

Our electrician, Steve, was on time and courteous. He did a great job and cleaned up after himself. What's more, he gave us several much-appreciated tips on dealing with the electrical system in our 44-year-old fixer-upper, including confirming that it was wired with aluminum and not copper, as the home inspector had said. (Oi, but good to know!) Overall, we're very happy with his service. Working with Mr. Electric the company was also a positive experience overall. After learning about the aluminum wiring, Steve's manager gave us a call and spoke to me for ten or fifteen minutes about my options, also much appreciated. The only snafu was in scheduling the final work date -- there was a couple days of delay, due to someone's cell phone acting up. Given how well the rest of it went, I'm willing to overlook it as a one-time fluke.
