Is it possible to multithread rsync or duplicity?

I noticed this morning that my daily incremental backup uses a steady 100% CPU. It'd be unnecessary but nice to give it seven cores to work with.

There are many questions about that on stackoverflow.com and superuser.com.

The answer is "yes", for rsync using clever tricks and multiple simultaneous invocations, but rsync isn't going to do it for you.

Duplicity can't be made parallel from the outside, like rsync, but the `--asynchronous-upload` option at least keeps one cpu busy.

I did NOT realize at the time that this was expected behavior.

Hello all.

Has anyone used this, or have second hand experience?
It sounds pretty decent for what it offers.

It has worked well so far. I was previously on Sprint and T-Mobile. It seems to work better than either individually, but I have not tested outside my local area. The VoIP works much better than I thought it would over my home WiFi.

For the Stand-Up junkie with a dark sense of humour.
Today's joke that takes a little thought. It's a joke based on a comedian's joke to comedians.

Awesome. I've possibly moved on to an even greater update path:

Check for Windows Updates
Wait for an indeterminate amount of time
Install updates
Reboot
Notice that cursor floats an inch beyond passwords end at login screen
Reboot
Notice it takes 6:40 for the desktop to load
Reboot
Return to work

Hi everyone.

Does anyone know whether the current sale on the 5x is related to Project Fi, or just buying the phone through Google and activating it (through someone) before 30 days?

FFS.

I finally got around to installing W7 from an ISO I finally got around to finding a month ago and reg key from a sticker on an old box.

It's been 20 minutes so far and I still have no idea when Windows Update will finish it's first run and give me results. I'm so glad I cut strings eight years ago.

Maybe I'll even get updates downloaded before July.

WOW. So on top of entering the license key, I also had to call a number, enter a 54 digit code, and then type a response 54 digit code to authenticate the license key.

Still waiting for that update scan to finish.

+Kenny Fletcher this is why I haven't used Windows at home for the last eight years.

There's absolutely no reason to have to put up with all the crap.

+Alastair Drong  I figured that is what you meant. I kind of mentioned the tower portion, but didn't all that much. My fault.

Google was very public about their tower share agreement when the service was first announced. The short of it basically said that project fi subscribers receive the same tower allocation as their own subscribers. Google attributed this to their standing in the technical field also their promise to the carriers that they would make quite a bit of money off of the agreement.

With the network monitoring apps that are available, no one has had any issue with watered down service or not having access to the towers that are in the area.

Hope this helps.
