We've been asked if the baby is a cadet or cadette.

Being an artist, I have printed some of my recent works at the print center in our local Staples. Overall, the print quality was good, but there were odd, unexpected color variations from the original images, though they had been prepared in the CMYK color palette. I chalked this up to a lack of understanding on my part.

Today I called Staples to get a quote for some printed materials needed at work. In the course of the conversation, the print associate informed me that though I had prepared the signage/posters in CMYK, I would be unable to print them in CMYK. Before I could question the paradox, she elaborated. Staples Corporate offices allow the print centers to use only Photoshop Elements, which has no CMYK image support. Everything opened in that program would be converted to the RGB color palette prior to printing, at which point the printer will convert to CMYK.
Being the print center of a major business/office supplier, I expected differently. The print associate echoed my incredulity.

This fully explains the color variations I'd seen in my own printed works. I will now be looking elsewhere for my own printing needs...

As an avid Star Wars fan, I've spent countless hours reading books from the Expanded Universe (EU). When Disney announced Episode VII, they also stated that the EU would be replaced with the new canon.
To myself, and thousands of others, this meant that the time we'd spent reading (and in the case of the authors themselves, writing) EU material was wasted effort, as none of it means anything to the continuity of the Star Wars universe anymore.

While I will read the new novels (the first of which will be released on 9/4/2015), and likely enjoy the new trilogy of movies, the EU is still an interesting universe, and I'd like to explore it further. The Fate of the Jedi series had imposed some dire circumstances on the Star Wars galaxy, and Disney's plans gave a premature ending to many hanging plotlines. The Sword of the Jedi series was highly anticipated, and was in development when Disney took over.

I recently came across this petition on change.org, and signed it myself. Whether you are a fan of the EU or not, I would ask that you sign it, so that those of us who are avid fans can at least continue to enjoy the universe in which we are so invested.
