One of two days at Impact Hub. Informative presentation by Swurveys - mobile friendly service to conduct surveys. Also great food by Choco Canyon.

Thanks for the invite Traca! Always great to visit Impact Hub. Lots of entrepreneurial and social impact ideas bubbling up here. #Tech #Startup #Seattle #WhatsNext

Living in a port city I've always been a sucker for watching cranes and container ships. Cool video showing a ship travel around the world. | Article: http://bit.ly/1MDNe5K #Trade #Industry #Global

It's official, Vulcan Inc. has acquired Promenade 23 in Seattle's Central District. Big changes likely in the pipeline. It's going to take a lot of community effort to make sure the neighborhood's African American history and culture doesn't get washed away. #BuiltEnvironment #City #RealEstate

Cool set of visualizations showing how Americans use time. The animated visualization is particularly fascinating to watch! We're all just tiny dots in the grand scheme of human life and behavior. | #Habit #Data

Good long read about how the U.S. government has played a fundamental role in shaping the fate of American cities. The policy levers which once helped level the playing field for various players has shifted towards accumulating power in the pockets of specific regions and people. | #City #Economics #History

Appreciated KUOW Public Radio's deep dive into the state of Seattle's affordable housing stock. The data and Tableau Software dashboard embedded into the middle of the piece helps illustrate the bigger picture of the debate. I was particularly interested to see where the affordable housing is and what concessions the city provided to entice developers. | Full Story: http://bit.ly/1USQBZS | ‪#‎BuiltEnvironment‬ ‪#‎Cities‬ ‪#‎DataVisuzliation‬

Perfect example of a public API being used to improve a core product while reaching new audiences. Wunderlist now integrates seamlessly with Sunrise (Microsoft product).

City-Tech company relationships can be complicated. While the initial benefits of having companies like Google, Apple, or LinkedIn, may be tempting, it comes with trade-offs. Big companies often exert their own power and influence over cities effecting everything from infrastructure to housing. On the flipside, if a partnership between municipal and corporate interests can be aligned, there is an opportunity for local benefits such as school funding, housing, transportation investment, etc. Great analysis of how some Silicon Valley tech companies are funding benefits for the towns they call home. | Full Story: http://bit.ly/1PLlQDH | ‪#‎Tech‬ ‪#‎SiliconValley‬ ‪#‎CSR‬ ‪#‎Cities‬ ‪#‎GivingBack‬

Likely won't draw a room full of people or major headlines but this new legislation could help combat rising rent costs. The Seattle City Council is pursuing new legislation which would give renters more protection and empower public agencies such as Seattle Housing Authority to buy rental units in order to keep them affordable. Rent control isn't the only tool Seattle has to make the city more affordable. | Full Article: http://bit.ly/1IRmP19 | #Rent #Cities #BuiltEnvironment #Seattle #NW
