Sree Sree Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!

It is the standing order of my Most Revered Divine Master, Gurudeva—Spiritual Guide—that "Wherever you go, you should sing, you should chant, you should speak, you should repeat whatever you have heard from the Lotus Lips of your Most Beloved Revered Gurudeva, other revered Vaisnavas and from the authentic scriptures, especially Srimad-Bhagavatam, the quintessence of all scriptures. You must speak about it. If you repeat whatever you have heard from the lotus lips of the bona fide guru and from bona fide pure devotees, then your mind will be purified and you will obtain one-pointed devotion to your object of worship, Supreme Lord Sri Krishna." This is the standing order of my Most Revered Gurudeva. Therefore, wherever I go I try to speak whatever I have remembered for my own spiritual benefit. If I cannot make progress myself, if I do not get eternal benefit myself, I cannot do good for others. So, I am grateful to the devotees here who have organized this meeting as they are giving me the opportunity to carry out the orders of my Divine Master. I am grateful to them and to all the devotees here.

God has bestowed conscience— discriminating power between good and bad, eternal and non-eternal to human beings. So they can accept that which is eternal and good and give up that which is non-eternal and bad. Human beings, because of their power of discrimination, are superior to all other species of living beings.

As human beings have got this discriminating power between good and bad, right and wrong, if they do wrong and bad actions, they are liable to be punished, as stated in the Gita— `Karmani evadhikaras te ma phalesu kadacana'— `You have got right to do karma— actions, but fruits of actions are controlled by Me (Supreme Lord Sri Krishna).' As beasts, birds etc. have got no such discriminating power and as they are insensible— without the sense of understanding, they are not punished like human beings. They have got their development in gradual procedure. There are exceptional cases in regard to this as stated in the scripture— `A pigeon being shot by a hunter with an arrow, fell down on the ground from a tree, circumambulated Vishnu temple while fidgeting and died. Due to this eternal good deed, not knowing that God is satisfied if any living being circumambulates His temple that living being will get the approved fruit, the pigeon got next birth human body in a Brahmin family, crossing over numerous intermediate other births, got association of bona fide devotee and attained the Lotus Feet of Supreme Lord.

What is the interpretation of the word `Bhagawan' (God)? We find words in the Gita— `Bhagavan uvaca' (Supreme Lord said). The Gita indicates that Supreme Lord is speaking. Sri Krishna is referred to as Bhagavan in the Gita. The inner significance of the word Bhagavan— "Bhaga means opulences, and van means one who possesses. We have some conception of God, but in the Vedic literature there are definite descriptions and definitions of what is meant by God, and what is meant is described in one word—Bhagavan. Bhagavan possesses all opulences, the totality of knowledge, wealth, power, beauty, fame and renunciation. When we find someone who possesses these opulences in full, we are to know that he is God. There are many rich, wise, famous, beautiful and powerful men, but no one man can claim to possess all of these opulences. Only Krishna claims to possess them in totality. Another interpretation of Bhagavan is `Bhaga' signifies `shakti' (potency). Interpretation of Bhagavan is `Sarvashaktiman'— One who possesses infinite opulences.

Sree Sree Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!

On December 27, 1936, several days prior to the setting of the blazing sun of the Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya, Om Vishnupada Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur, spoke to a gathering of his closest disciples, at which time he said the following words:

"I have disturbed many people because I felt myself obliged to speak the unadulterated truth. I have told everyone to worship Hari without hypocrisy and because of this some people have perhaps considered me to be their enemy. So I have caused many people anxiety by telling them to give up other desires and hypocrisy and to sincerely serve Krishna. Some day they will be able to understand what I was getting at.

"All of you please preach the message of Rupa and Raghunath with great enthusiasm. The ultimate object of our desires is to become specks of dust at the lotus feet of the followers of Rupa Goswami. Remain united in following the asraya-vigraha in order to satisfy the transcendental senses of the one, non-dual supreme truth. Make your way through this impermanent, transitory life in whatever way you can, keeping the goal of worshiping the Lord foremost in your minds. Don't abandon this goal, even in the face of hundreds of dangers, insults, or persecutions. Don't lose your spirit if you see that the majority of people cannot accept the principle of selfless service to the Supreme Lord. Never abandon your bhajana, hearing and chanting Krishna-katha, the be-all and end-all of your devotional life. Please always chant the name of the Lord, being humbler than a blade of grass and more tolerant than the tree.

"This body is like the aging cow which in ancient times was meant to be offered up in sacrifice. Only we desire to offer the body to Krishna in the sacrifice of the Holy Name established by Sri Krishna Chaitanya and His associates. We do not seek to become heroes performing great works or religious deeds; our true being and our identity is that of a speck of dust at the lotus feet of Sri Rupa Prabhu, life after life. The stream which flows from Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur will never be dammed up. Remember this and vow to double your efforts to fulfill Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur's desires. Amongst you are many capable and worthy individuals. We seek nothing for ourselves; our only motto is:

adadanas trnam dantair idam yace punah punah | srimad rupa-padambhoja-dhulh syam janma-janmani ||

Taking grass between my teeth, I pray repeatedly that I may become a speck of dust at Sri Rupa Goswami's lotus feet, birth after birth. (Raghunath Das Goswami, Muktacarita.)

"While living in the world, we encounter many difficulties; but there is no need for us to be bewildered by these difficulties -- nor need we make any effort to remove them. What is necessary is for us, while we are still here, is to learn what will remain after we have removed all those difficulties -- what will be the nature of our eternal life. There are so many things which we want or don't want, but we have to come to terms with this duality of attractions and repulsions. The more we distance ourselves from Krishna's lotus feet, the more these things will draw us in. We can only begin to comprehend the exquisite taste of service to Krishna's lotus feet after transcending these worldly attractions and repulsions and being attracted by His holy name. The doctrines of Krishna-bhakti seem startling at first, perhaps even perplexing. Knowingly or unknowingly, every human being is struggling to eliminate the adventitious elements in life which interfere with his direct experience of eternal fulfillment. Our only obligation is to go beyond duality and to enter the world of that eternal fulfillment.

"We have no attachment for anyone in this world, nor any hostility. Whatever arrangements we make in this world last but a moment, while the need to search out the supreme fulfillment is equally unavoidable for everyone. May all of you work united and in harmony toward the same goal: to earn the right to serve the root asraya-vigraha. May the current of ideas propagated by Rupa Goswami flow throughout the world. May we never under any circumstances become indifferent to the seven-tongued sacrificial flame of the Holy Name. If our attraction to it remains ever-increasing, we will achieve all perfection. Remain faithful to Rupa Goswami's followers and preach Rupa and Raghunath's teachings enthusiastically and fearlessly."

Sree Sree Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!

A diseased person, who has got no knowledge of medical science, is incapable of treating himself and he has to go to an expert doctor for treatment. The doctor examines him and makes diagnosis of the disease and prescribes medicine and diet for the treatment. If the ailing person follows his advice and undergoes treatment, he is cured. Similarly, we are to go to an expert spiritual doctor — a bona fide Guru (Divine Master) who knows the cause of the malady of worldly affliction. And can prescribe correctly prescribe for the definite cure of the disease of cycle of birth and death. But, it is very difficult to get a bona fide Guru at the present sinful black age (Kaliyuga) of corruption. In fact, it is stated in the scriptures that there may be many so-called Gurus to grab money from disciples. A bona fide Guru who can dispel all afflictions is rarely to be found. If we want quality, we have to sacrifice quantity.

Sree Sree Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!

Mundane relations are not actual relations, worldly relations are always changeable. We have got our actual relation with Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. Actually we are to mourn for forgetting our relation with Supreme Lord Sri Krishna Who is our dearest.

As per desire of Sri Krishna Jivas have got births and deaths, they come and go. Falsely we think them to be our own. A time will come when the whole universe will perish and Supreme Lord Sri Krishna will take away all the Jivas. Nobody can resist His Absolute Will, so, it is always wise to submit to the Absolute Will of the Absolute Purna Who is All Good.

The born will die and the dead will be born. Lord Sri Krishna forbids to mourn for that which is inevitable. 'Prarabdha Karma Nirvanam Nyapatat Panchabhouthikan'. When there is end of the fruits of karma which have started, this body will perish. This end may come through disease, accident, etc., all these are instrumental. Jivas come and go by the Will of Sri Krishna, but out of nescience we think them to be ours and we suffer for attachment. Nobody comes and goes by our desire. When Jivas become averse to Sri Krishna, His illusory energy envelops them and they are drowned in the ocean of births and deaths and threefold afflictions. We wrongly think ourselves to be bodies and other bodies related to us as ours. Actually we are of Sri Krishna and He is ours. There is no existence of suffering. This is like a dream. When we forget our relation with Sri Krishna, we become victim of suffering. A realised soul has got constant remembrance of Sri Krishna, so he is beyond this dream.
