While this is not my first post in this community, but I should have introduced myself and I think this is a fitting photograph with which to do so.

This is not a picture of me. This is Peter, a WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War combat photographer. At the time the picture was taken Peter was 94.

Tomb Guard Walks Away

In February, when the cemetery is open to the public, guards from the +3d US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard)  are relieved once an hour. The high temperature in Arlington that day was 21 degrees Fahrenheit without wind-chill. Temperature with wind-chill at the time the approximate time the picture was taken (3:52 p.m.) was 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit.

My dad is buried in ANC and I always watch at least 2 changing of the guards ceremonies when I visit the cemetery. He took me there as a kid and taught me the meaning and history of the ceremony. It's one of my fondest memories of my dad and I still hear his voice when I watch the Sentries.

The dedication and commitment of the soldiers and ANC staff is to be highly commended. ANC is the epitome of perfection. Nothing but the best for our Nation's best!

Hope you enjoyed ANC and thanks for sharing this. It brought a smile to my face on my birthday no less! :)
