Leap Second Adjustment 30. June 2015 23:59:60 (July 1st 01:59.60 CEST)

ITU-R located in Geneva, Switzerland, responsible for the worlds time measuring have recently decided, that the needed Leap Second will be added on the 30th of June 2015.
This will however create some tasks, to make sure that everything will run smooth despite the Leap Second.

A leap second is a second which is added to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in order to synchronize atomic clocks with astronomical time to within 0.9 seconds, this means that instead of going from 23:59:59 to 00:00:00, it will be 23:59:60 and then 00:00:00.

The reason a leap second every now and then has to be added, is that Earth's rotation around its own axis, is gradually slowing down, although very slowly.

Atomic clocks however, are programmed to tick away at pretty much the same speed over millions of years. Compared to the Earth's rotation – which determines the length of a day – the atomic clocks are simply too accurate.

This may seem insignificant, but many applications and some OS-Systems cannot handle the number 60 in seconds, or 61 seconds in a minute.

Last time a leap second was added, was in 2012, were some unpatched vulnerable applications and OS-Systems, suffered service interruption.

Yup, I knew it was completely false. People will believe anything. So if you beard had this, wouldn't your hair have it as well?
Ricky Pike originally shared:

If you read an article about poo in beards, the author is probably full of crap.
What do beards and toilets have in common? Fortunately, for fans of facial growth, the answer, and the good news, is nothing

WTF?! This story will make you FURIOUS! To top this off, he was re-elected to his position as sheriff while he was facing 37 charges of corruption. Gotta love statism!

Learn more about this case: http://goo.gl/tiX6I6
Georgia sheriff with a history of corruption shot a woman in the stomach Sunday, and then left the scene because he could...."he's the sheriff."

Introduction

I’m a 36 year old self-proclaimed geek who enjoys all things open source and Linux. I don’t use, advocate or really even condone the use of most proprietary technologies. (So, no, I can’t fix your Windows system. I can recommend some good alternatives, though.) My geekiness extends into Linux, Android, computers, information security, video games, music, movies, and programming.

I have been using Linux for over 12 years now  (03/2003) exclusively on all my machines. Over the years, I have done a lot of reading, posting on forums and Googling to learn how to use it effectively, and I keep discovering new aspects of it every day. I firmly believe in the open source community and immensely enjoy helping others with Linux. Since 2007 I have been using ArchLinux to improve my understanding of what goes on ‘under the hood’ of Linux. While I’m no expert I do have a wealth of ‘hands-on’ experience with Linux and Linux systems. I’m currently a member of a number of Linux based mailing lists/forums, an Admin of Bruno’s All Things Linux Forum and an Owner of the Archlinux Community on Google+. You can also catch me on irc.freenode.net @ #archlinux

I enjoy the challenge of figuring new things out, especially the challenge of bending my computer to do exactly what I need it to do for me. And that’s one reason I love open source and Linux in particular. I do not mind rolling up my sleeves and tinkering under the hood of my computers, both in the software and hardware aspects.

"We try to avoid the word "newbie",  it does no justice to the efforts we, also the beginners, put in to learn a new operating system. I think the wish to learn Linux shows a brave attitude and deserves a better qualification." --Bruno
