Google continues to surprise us with new products that not only simply work, but also make computing more affordable for users.

The company has announced a new breed of device called Chromebit. It’s an HDMI stick, similar to Chromecast, that comes with a full-fledged Chrome OS operating system.

I see Chromebit as an excellent thin client in an enterprise set-up where all core apps live and run on enterprise servers.
Will this sub-$100 device repeat the success of Chromecast?

On a second look, there might be a subtle reference to Hurd kernel, don't you think?

It's real.  During training, LEOs are told that the phrase is that you used the "maximum force necessary" to protect life and property as this had been upheld in court.  If you say "minimum force" then the prosecutor can dispute that and you can get prosecuted for excessive force.  Sounds odd, but that is how "the game" works.  Here is the federal contractor I worked for where I was taught this when there were no IT jobs to be had in my area:

Hey, it couldn't hurt!
Microsoft is going back to the basics for a joke at the expense of Windows Phone today. What do you do when your smartphone operating system has less than three percent market share worldwide?...

Part of being an IT Pro is knowing how to get from the right pane to the left pane quickly, efficiently, and invisibly to the customer.  With experience it becomes more about how you think and less about what you know.

Introduction

I’m a 36 year old self-proclaimed geek who enjoys all things open source and Linux. I don’t use, advocate or really even condone the use of most proprietary technologies. (So, no, I can’t fix your Windows system. I can recommend some good alternatives, though.) My geekiness extends into Linux, Android, computers, information security, video games, music, movies, and programming.

I have been using Linux for over 12 years now  (03/2003) exclusively on all my machines. Over the years, I have done a lot of reading, posting on forums and Googling to learn how to use it effectively, and I keep discovering new aspects of it every day. I firmly believe in the open source community and immensely enjoy helping others with Linux. Since 2007 I have been using ArchLinux to improve my understanding of what goes on ‘under the hood’ of Linux. While I’m no expert I do have a wealth of ‘hands-on’ experience with Linux and Linux systems. I’m currently a member of a number of Linux based mailing lists/forums, an Admin of Bruno’s All Things Linux Forum and an Owner of the Archlinux Community on Google+. You can also catch me on irc.freenode.net @ #archlinux

I enjoy the challenge of figuring new things out, especially the challenge of bending my computer to do exactly what I need it to do for me. And that’s one reason I love open source and Linux in particular. I do not mind rolling up my sleeves and tinkering under the hood of my computers, both in the software and hardware aspects.

"We try to avoid the word "newbie",  it does no justice to the efforts we, also the beginners, put in to learn a new operating system. I think the wish to learn Linux shows a brave attitude and deserves a better qualification." --Bruno
