Here are #SixOfTheBest things that weren't that great.
Here are six of the best things I've revisited lately that just weren't that great. Maybe I'm having a midlife crisis or something.

#SixOfTheBest  is about writing this week... again... and I've given up.
Since it's November, and NaNoWriMo, hopefully my Six of the Best reasons for giving up on a story help you keep me interested in yours.

I tried Nano two years ago. Got about 10,000 words in and then found out that I had a book coming out (under another name) and had to put all my energy toward promotion.

This is more about the kinds of stories I'll give up on reading, to try and help Nano-ers write better.

What are #SixOfTheWorst parts of the Star Wars movies? Let's find out.
As befits my status as "guy who writes lists of six things" as well as the remarkable convenience that there are currently six Star Wars films, I'm going to take a look at what I think was the worst part of each one.

Want to self-publish your #nanowrimo  book? Here are #SixOfTheBest  things you might want to know.
A staggering amount of authors are putting out self-published books, and more and more of them are having success. But self-publishing is a lot harder than just writing a book. Here are six of the best things no one tells you about it.

In today's #SixOfTheBest , I talk about doing it yourself.
A lot of nerds are makers of one sort or another. You're creating something instead of depending on someone else's work, and there's power there. So here are six of the best reasons to do it yourself.

Let me say up front that our waiter and the hostess were both awesome. They were very nice, the food came out quickly and was hot, and overall there were no problems with the service. However, I really liked this restaurant much more when it was Taco Mac. I ordered the Nacho Mountain with Chicken instead of Beef, and was not thrilled. The chicken and refried beans both seemed to have little-to-no flavor, and when I requested hot sauce, it tasted more vinegar-y than it should have, as if the batch was bulked up with extra vinegar to stretch farther. (I have no knowledge if the hot sauce thing is true or not. That's just what it tasted like.) The salsa was good, but beware -- extra salsa, in the form of a little plastic cup the size of a McNuggets sauce tub, costs 75 cents. I was dining with a friend, and she was unhappy with the sweet tea (didn't say why) and the Mr Pibb (tasted more like root beer than Mr Pibb should). Finally -- and this is NOT the fault of the restaurant -- when the wind blows in a certain direction, the dumpster across the street makes the parking lot smell like trash. I'm willing to give them another shot -- next time I'll order something different, though -- and revise/update the review if the food is better.

This store was probably the best grocery we went to while in Frederick. It was a bit farther than we'd have liked to travel (five miles), but had everything we could have possibly needed. The mushrooms were enormous, the ginger was enormous, and there were plenty of paper goods to choose from. Plus, my friend was able to save 40% on the book she wanted. Because of its sheer size, this location was occasionally hard to navigate -- it took me a moment to figure out where some of the items were. Also, getting into the plaza is difficult; there's only one way in and out, and there's a LOT going on in the plaza.

I haven't had Vietnamese food in a while, and all the reviews said that this place had the best value, so we gave it a try. The large pho was $8 and very satisfying, although I would have liked more vegetables in there. Plenty of meat, though. The limeade was also very good. Service was friendly and the food came out very fast, but once we had the food we didn't see the waitress again until I went up to the counter to get a container for our leftovers. Others have said the plaza felt "sketchy" to them, but I didn't get that feeling. The parking lot could use a little repaving, but that's not the restaurant's fault.

We stopped into Weis Markets to get ingredients for chocolate chip cookies, and also a toilet plunger (don't ask). We got all the ingredients, and the prices and quality were fine (they were out of plungers), but we were not at all happy with the checkout process. We chose to use a self-checkout lane since there was only one cashier working. The lane was very slow, and it required manager approval to purchase a $6 bottle of vanilla used for cooking. The front-end manager was helping several customers at the same time and it took him a while to get to us. Then, just before we finished, our last item caused the self-checkout device to malfunction. At that point we had to wait almost TEN MINUTES for him to come over and approve our purchase. In his defense, he was working at the service desk and he had customers there. I don't blame him; I blame the management for not making sure there was enough staff.

I went here while on vacation in Frederick. The service was good, and the food was good, although I agree with another poster that some of the prices are a bit high. We had the signature sauce, which was interestingly-sweet, and the baked crabby mac (which was quite expensive for a small dish of penne, cheese sauce, and crab).
