I'm rather proud of today's #SixOfTheBest  on Nerdery Public. I hope you read it. It's about the news industry, elections, and the drive to be first at everything.
I've got a list of six of the best problems that are all CNN's fault.

My latest #SixOfTheBest  is about going to conventions.
I'm going to two conventions in the next few months, though, and one of the forum threads I participated in asked previous con-goers what they should bring. Now, I'm not going to spend a bunch of time reminding you to bring underpants and comfortable shoes, but here's six of the best things you can put in your con bag -- by which I mean the bag you carry with you as you meander through the con.

I've written an article: "Finding Happiness via HTTPS". The image my publisher chose to represent "the internet" is amazing.

It's a fair bet that most of us have been on at least one airplane trip in our lives. I mean, the first one that I remember was in 1982, when I was four, and the most notable thing about it was that the bathroom was big enough for my mom, my sister, and me, without being cramped. Since then I have flown many times and on many different airplanes, and despite the rigmarole of air travel, I find that I rather enjoy it.

My latest Nerdery Public column is about the way my seven-year-old plays tabletop games with me. You might think "badly", but she does have strategies. #SixOfTheBest

My latest Nerdery Public column is about casual gaming. #2048
The concept of casual gaming has been a thing pretty much since we've had electronic game systems. From three-frame animations to the original Game Boy, from systems like the PSP to the phone you carry everywhere, chances are you've wasted at least some time on a casual game. My latest obsession is #2 on my list, and it's so big that even XKCD has done a comic about it.

I have written a column for Nerdery Public. It's actually much more serious than my usual postings there. You should read it.
There's a very high level of trust that goes with letting your social groups collide, especially in the internet age, especially when real names are involved, and especially when people in one social group value their privacy (for whatever reason).

We did something similar in real life when we hosted a house warming party, inviting gay friends, online forum friends and family. They all got along very well considering the diverse means they all connected to me. It even led to a hybrid gaming group with some of each meeting regularly.

This store was probably the best grocery we went to while in Frederick. It was a bit farther than we'd have liked to travel (five miles), but had everything we could have possibly needed. The mushrooms were enormous, the ginger was enormous, and there were plenty of paper goods to choose from. Plus, my friend was able to save 40% on the book she wanted. Because of its sheer size, this location was occasionally hard to navigate -- it took me a moment to figure out where some of the items were. Also, getting into the plaza is difficult; there's only one way in and out, and there's a LOT going on in the plaza.

We stopped into Weis Markets to get ingredients for chocolate chip cookies, and also a toilet plunger (don't ask). We got all the ingredients, and the prices and quality were fine (they were out of plungers), but we were not at all happy with the checkout process. We chose to use a self-checkout lane since there was only one cashier working. The lane was very slow, and it required manager approval to purchase a $6 bottle of vanilla used for cooking. The front-end manager was helping several customers at the same time and it took him a while to get to us. Then, just before we finished, our last item caused the self-checkout device to malfunction. At that point we had to wait almost TEN MINUTES for him to come over and approve our purchase. In his defense, he was working at the service desk and he had customers there. I don't blame him; I blame the management for not making sure there was enough staff.

I went here while on vacation in Frederick. The service was good, and the food was good, although I agree with another poster that some of the prices are a bit high. We had the signature sauce, which was interestingly-sweet, and the baked crabby mac (which was quite expensive for a small dish of penne, cheese sauce, and crab).

I haven't had Vietnamese food in a while, and all the reviews said that this place had the best value, so we gave it a try. The large pho was $8 and very satisfying, although I would have liked more vegetables in there. Plenty of meat, though. The limeade was also very good. Service was friendly and the food came out very fast, but once we had the food we didn't see the waitress again until I went up to the counter to get a container for our leftovers. Others have said the plaza felt "sketchy" to them, but I didn't get that feeling. The parking lot could use a little repaving, but that's not the restaurant's fault.
