Bye Bye Blogger
It's been a long time. But given YouTube's support of sexual exploitation and child pornography, I feel an obligation to avoid supporting Google. For more information, click here . So I've moved my blog to the very similar, but slightly different address jo...

Paul and Judaism Revisited by Preston Sprinkle
Paul & Judaism Revisited: A Study of Divine and Human Agency in Salvation by Preston M Sprinkle My rating: 3 of 5 stars This is a dry book. But it is filled with careful, nuanced scholarship on Paul's relationship to first-century Judaism. Sprinkle examines...

World Relief in Northern Lombok
Sometimes, people make me so proud I can hardly stand it. Thursday was one of those days. I got the chance to visit World Relief's project in Lombok. It's a very simple project really. 1. Mobilize local churches and organizations to serve the most vulnerabl...

That's a Carryon?
Last night I flew from Jakarta to Bali with all of my personal possessions. That means one suitcase that weighs 50 pounds, a 30 pound backpack, and a 6-8 pound carry-on backpack. Now, the ticket that I had was for two people with 15 kg of checked baggage a ...

Nabeel Qureshi on a Christian response to Islam
Nabeel has a great book out called Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus. As I was watching a series of his lectures at Biola, he spoke about violence in Islam. I'm not sure how important that is for you. But, if you are a Christian, his exhortation at the end of th...

The Insanity of God by Nik Ripken
The Insanity of God: A True Story of Faith Resurrected by Nik Ripken My rating: 1 of 5 stars There were a lot of things I liked about the Insanity of God by Nick Ripken. But the one thing that makes me madder and madder the more I think about it is that he ...

Beware Success
There were some hard words spoken in my church today (and not by me this time! :D ). Words were spoken about the necessity for confession and repentance in order to become more fully transformed. The message was a good one, well-couched in the promises of d...

Rand-ian Man The Western ideal of the independent individual is a pernicious myth that has proven remarkably hard to kill. The greatest champion of the ideal might have been Ayn Rand, and her ideas still have enormous influence. Decades of environmental dis...

An Open Letter to Christian FIlmmakers
I just finished watching God is Not Dead. I appreciated a lot of things about the film. But I think I would like to throw out a couple of suggestions for Christian filmmakers. I'm not a script writer or anything, so take all this with a grain of salt. Think...

This place looks like a dump, but it's cheap and the staff is helpful and friendly. The beds are pretty good too, just make sure you get one with a working fan and a bit away from the window. Karon Beach is the closest beach, but you will have a much better time if you take the walk down to Kata Beach which is nicer and you can swim!

This was one of the worst places I've ever stayed, and I've stayed in a lot. Service was okay. But my room had a three inch crack that ran the length of the wall and a carpet that kept my socks on. Wifi was good, cable was good. The worst part was my $29 room cost $39 ... tax, evidently. Also a bit noisy.

I'm a car guy myself, and normally I do my own repairs. But when I had car trouble 1600 miles from home, I went to Chris' shop. I fully expected to get ripped off, being so close to L.A. But I was pleasantly surprised. Not only is Chris a nice guy, but his prices are amazing, and he knows more about Hondas than anyone I have ever met. Best mechanic that I have ever dealt with.
