Google Translate, now with Handwriting Recognition

Check out today's update to Google Translate for Android – we've launched a new feature allowing you to write text directly on your screen with your finger, have it recognized, and then translated.

This is exceptionally useful for Chinese and Japanese, where it can be hard to input all those characters. It is on by default for those two languages, and you can enable it in your settings for English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.

Download our app from Android Market:

Edit Note: We've discovered a bug preventing handwriting from working for users using French, Italian, German, or Spanish locales on your phone. We'll get a bug fix release out as soon as we can. In the mean time, try changing your locale to English and it'll work.
