Cutthroat capitalism....

But two-day shipping!

WASHINGTON—After revelations emerged regarding the online retailer’s cutthroat office environment, Americans across the nation expressed outrage Wednesday that Amazon’s punishing workplace culture had yet to result in same-day shipping for every single available product.

So....

Story time.

+Comcast and I have been going back and forth about my internet speed. I'm on the 105mbps plan, and I only ever got ~75mbps.

Today, I replaced my cat5 (not cat5e, but cat5) cables with cat6a.

My internet speed tripled. I just did a two speedtests, and my download went to 175 while my upload stayed at ~11mbps.

Never let anyone tell you it's not the cables. Never.

My speed issues ended up being the fact that our installer didn't put the termination in a box.  While there were water-resistant ends on the cables, I guess they started leaking after 3 years.  Got a cable box and ground block off of Amazon and the problem went away.

At least there's some upward mobility in this country.

WASHINGTON—Citing “nearly unlimited” opportunities for the nation’s currency, an encouraging study released Tuesday by the Brookings Institution found that it has never been easier for U.S. dollars to enter the richest segment of American society.

Every day, I feel like I learn something mind-blowing. This is today.

These plastic 'shade balls' will prevent an estimated 300 million gallons of water from evaporating into the air each year!
California’s largest city hopes to combat drought and water pollution with 96 million plastic balls at the (relatively) low cost of $35 million.

Nukes and solar.  Seriously, they built a goddamn metropolis in a desert and started growing crops there,  they should just start covering every goddamn thing in solar panels and they'd be fine.  Hell, could probably start exporting power too.

This is a much more eloquent way of putting the "raising the minimum wage" argument.

It's about raising all of us up; not putting each other down.

That's an amazing idea and is still understandable to those that handle more responsibility in a business.  That's worthy of advocating.

If you can use the API directly, don't try to convince yourself that you need a module to wrap it.

I'm looking at you, collectd and rabbitmq....

Science! You'll get everything related to science on this page. Be it physics, biology, astrophysics, astronomy, chemistry. Your one place stop for all the news related to scientific stuff! Most of the stuff I post is not written by me.

I bought a car here in June 2013. When I bought it, I believed it to be a steal at $2500. I just needed something to go a few miles to and from work. The employees and the owner told me that the car was in great shape except that it needed new tires and, sure enough, I got those replaced after buying the car. What they didn't tell me was that the car: 1. Needed new shocks and struts. Not cheap. After this one, I went back to the owner and asked him about this. He said "oh, maybe we can come to an agreement. I don't like to sell bad merchandise." Except that every time I tried to meet up with him (at least 5 times), he wasn't available or was out doing something. I would have even accepted an apology. 2. Needed new tire irons. After the last scenario, I didn't even try to talk to the owner about this. I fear the car now has electrical problems, which means that this thing has always been rotting from the inside out. Definitely a lemon. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, even my worst enemy.

I'm editing my review after having been here for eight months. I still stand by my comments that I, personally, haven't been having problems with bed bugs like some of of the others. However, my experience with management has changed. They don't allow sublets, so if you have an emergency and need to move the only way to get out of your lease if is someone signs a year lease on top of yours; needless to say, this is much less common. It's also fairly expensive, so, combined with the above, I feel that this is overall a place to avoid.
