Charlie Barnett’s impact on the world of comedy may be one of the most tragically underreported stories in the comedy industry. He was a selfless comic who gave everything he could to his audiences. He developed a following of struggling performers and artists who tapped into his energy, creativity and natural delivery. Although Charlie tragically passed away on March 16, 1996, his impact on some of comedy’s greats are still the subject of great discussions.

How Amy Schumer Went From Comedian To Movie Star

Amy Schumer has gone from a New York stand up comic to a household name in just a few short years. The Trainwreck star seemingly stepped into TV and movie stardom overnight, but her rise to fame hit actually hit few key milestones that have shaped her career.

Here’s the 3 moves that catapulted Schumer to comedy royalty … young comedians, take note.

She Filled A Niche

Amy Schumer is the voice of the modern 21st century woman. She is a feminist, brutally honest, and constantly pushing the boundaries with her social commentary. It’s the type of voice many American women were looking for, and has helped propel her popularity.

Now, that’s not saying Schumer may represents all women — her stage persona has been described as a middle class, educated, and somewhat slutty young woman — but it’s the issues she points under under her guise that has woman backing her up.

Women were looking for someone with a strong point of view, and Amy Schumer delivered. There aren’t many women out there doing what she does, and she figured that out early on and ran with it.

She Got On TV

Schumer is now known for her own television show Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central, but the young comic landed a bunch of other tv gigs before launching her own show.

Schumer first appeared on “Last Comic Standing” on NBC back in 2007, and while she only came in fourth place, the national exposure was instrumental to her career. She caught the eye of Comedy Central during that gig, and was later booked on Live at Gotham and as a Roaster for Charlie Sheen. Comedy Central was so impressed they launched a pilot with Schumer, and even ran a stand up special.

Now Inside Amy Schumer — which launched in 2013 — is one of the most successful shows for the network, with nearly a million views per episode. Schumer shows it takes just one good performance on national TV to launch your career.

She’s Gone Viral

Schumers antics on her show, or out in public have proved insanely shareable and sent many of these clips into the realm of viral videos. Her videos have been shared across twitter and facebook, and made into memes and gifs in the millions all across the web.
Her viral success can be attributed quite simply to her insane(ly funny) humor. Schumer never seizes to impress, or surprise her audience both on the screen, or walking the red carpet. Her humor is often scathing which riles up her audience, and at the same time infuriates her critics. Either way, she’s got America waiting for the next crazy thing she is going to say — and they can’t wait to share it with their friends.

A man was shot and killed early today while standing in front of the Comedy Store in West Hollywood as more than 150 customers attended shows.

The man was standing with a group outside the comedy club at about 12:49 a.m. when a adult man wearing a hoodie showed up and opened fire, said Lt. Steve Jauch of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim, is a man in his 20s, was shot at least one time in the upper torso. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was not identified.

The Homicide Report: A story for every victim >>

The shooter was able to run away before police arrived The Comedy Store located at 8400 block of Sunset Boulevard, Jauch said. Witnesses told KTLA-TV that a minimum of six shots were fired.

LAPD Detectives are prepared to contact local businesses in the area to review surveillance footage.

The Comedy Store was hosting a “Roast Battle” while the shooting happened comedians including Bobby Lee from “Mad TV,” Ron White, Erik Griffin and Bret Ernst. The stand up comedians were performing up until the shots were fired.

Justin Martindale, 35, a stand up comedian, said he was a judging one of the two shows held that night when he heard several loud shots sounding like loud firecrackers.

“We kept the show going just because we weren’t sure what was going on,” Martindale said. “Then everyone started spilling into the upstairs room.”

The Security guards at the comedy club told customers that there has been a shooting downstairs, he said.

“Everyone is shaken up about it,” Martindale said. “It’s crazy, out of all places.”

Comics were now talking about whether the shows should continue Wednesday night, he said.

Comedian Mike Black, who was scheduled to go on at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, said on Twitter that all comedians, staff and audience were OK.

Comedian Yoursie Thomas said poilice were releasing 10 people at a time from the venue’s parking lot.

Brother was shot right in front of the welcome mat at the Comedy Store. Hollywood,” he said via Instagram.

Comic Brandt Tobler said on his social media Facebook said the gunman opened fire on the victim 10 feet away from him.

“Just shot him in the middle of the Comedy Store patio,” he wrote. “I have never been that close to that kind of violence and it was something I will never forget. It was so scary and very sad. I guess you never know when you are going to die, but I am glad today was not my day.”

This is the first homicide reported in West Hollywood in the past 1 year, according to The Times Homicide Report.

City Councilman John Duran, has been a resident in the Sunset for a longtime, said he was awakened by a text message around 1 a.m. saying there had been a shooting. He was extremely shocked.

“It’s very rare that we have a homicide in the West Hollywood,” he said early Wednesday morning. The West Hollywood sheriff’s station have made security on the Sunset Strip a main importance for years because there is so much nightlife here, he said.

Inclusion to police patrols, private security guards patrol the Sunset Strip. The Comedy Store is located within the Sunset Strip Business Improvement District, where businesses pay yearly fees to fund the private security guards and street cleaning.

Because of the added security in West Hollywood, Duran said he thought it “was probably one of those acts of violence where the perpetrator and the victim had to know each other …. I don’t think it was random act of violence.”

A good stretch of Sunset Boulevard was closed for several hours as investigators collected evidence and spoked to eye witnesses.

Amy Schumer Monologue – SNL

Amy Schumer talks about wanting better role models for young girls than the Kardashians and the time she thought she was dating Bradley Cooper.

Amy Schumer was hosting “Saturday Night Live” last saturday, and it appears Khloe Kardashian wasn’t too happy with the stand up comedian’s opening monologue. Schumer made the Kardashian’s the butt of quite a few mocking jokes:

“We have to be a role model for these little girls, because who do they have?” said Schumer. “All they have, literally, is the Kardashians.”

The comic  then made fun at Khloe’s weight, in general.

“And like, we used to have Khloe. Khloe was ours, right?” said Schumer, in reference to Khloe’s 35-pound weight loss. “But then Khloe, she’s lost half her body weight. Like Khloe, she lost a Kendall, and we have nothing.”

It definitely materialized and got back to Khloe, as she later tweeted out to Amy Schumer:

Khloe has been honest about her weight loss, detailing it all publicly on Instagram and talking about it recently in the media.

“I’ve lost like, 35 pounds. I don’t really weigh myself … but I know how I want to feel in clothes and it does become addicting once you start losing weight and seeing results. I want to see more,” said Khloe on the Australian radio show, “Fitzy & Wippa.”

The Kardasian has revealed her hard work has paid off in a recent Complex magazine photo shoot earlier in the year. Khloe Instagram some unretouched photo from that shoot, which she dedicated to “the troll haters out there.”
