The disappointment that we didn’t tap our potential to grow higher than we could’ve, hurts; the frustration that we didn’t put in place any structural reforms that will boost growth in the future hurts; the humiliation to go from emerging economy to submerging economy hurts.

In 2010, I interviewed Vivek, co-founder of InterviewStreet. He said, among other things,
-when you are cash strapped and you see people around you “moving forward” (according to the world) - you do feel you have been left behind in the race. But I am sure, this would pay off later!

Today InterviewStreet is named as one of innovative companies in India. What a journey.

Thinking in ratios and working to make that ratio better may turn out to be the lever that shifts this year into a productive, successful year.

On AAP

Politicians, much like marketers, fight apathy. They don't fear bad news. For them, no news is bad news. When looked from a branding and marketing angle, the recent episode has put AK and AAP a household name across India. It's a dream come true for any politician.

His picture of sleeping on the road was flashed across the TV screens and front page of all newspapers. No other politician has gone to sleep on the road, less so in the brutal cold. The highly paid media editors and straight-line thinking intellectuals may say what they want, but the emotion-evoking photos have captured the minds of people. In another ten days, everyone of Delhi will forget they got into a huge traffic jam (because that was only handful of people who were affected); but everyone in India will remember the CM-who-slept-in-biting-cold-for-his-people at least until the next election which is just few months away.

Looking foolish and being foolish are two different things. AK looked foolish last year; this year he has proved he isn't foolish. (It blows my mind how Congress manages to be foolish & look foolish at the same time. They make comments on Modi being a tea-vendor. Now BJP is capitalising on it. AK just wanted to do dharna with his ministers and probably it would've been a no news. Congress blocked him and he fully capitalised it). He has shown consistently that he can catch all the criticisms thrown at him, make a masala of them on top of the bald heads of the junk politicians and sell it to their constituents successfully. I'm amazed at his skill. Unless something changes drastically between now and the upcoming election, AK will emerge as the king-maker, if not a king.
