Should we teach children about Christopher Columbus? If so, when and how?

Here's why Wikileaks is wrong:

a) They're wrong.

b) She's a little girl. What's wrong with you!?

c) She's advocating for free compulsory education for all.

d) They can advocate for Manning without knocking Malala.

e) War hawks don't need an excuse to go after a country. A fake PowerPoint slide show are enough to engage in some form of combat. At this point, our country drones, provides weapons to, or occupies any country that is strategically in the way of the US government's interests.

Grsnt Wiggins thinks he's a troublemaker. He hasn't met me yet. Also, this is the first step towards math ed reform
This week, a few of us got into a discussion, and involved Grant Wiggins. He calls himself a troublemaker, but I don’t remember seeing him at the last few meetings, and I’m the treasurer. In any case, for his 100th blog, he wrote this: Algebra is a dumb course. It survives only by unthinking habit. […]

I'm just gonna say this: I find it interesting that the ppl who get listed the most rail against lists now. Those of us who are constantly left off lists (for whatever reason) are at once bewildered and grateful. On the one end, I'm not sure what I did to merit #2, but I also know that, in some circles, having only seven thousand followers does not make you a real blogger or worth being in the "circle." Most of the people I talk to don't work this way, but some do. I thank you for dropping my name in this post because, as the one person who people start to think of when they think of teachers of color who tweet, I see the bias far too often. Good on Mashable. I wonder if how many people rail against lists they actually get on.

Here's a good collection of things to read, including from +Audrey Watters , +Patrick Honner , and +Basil Kolani .
A few notes: Please note: Because of my new book coming out in Spring of 2014, I’ve reduced my posting to three times a week: Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On Friday, my newsletter sends you my postings, especially for those of you where my blog is banned. Please do subscribe, even if it’s not […]

+John Spencer asked us if teachers should be political, and some things you may have missed about the MLK's part in the 1963 March on Washington, all in my reads of the week.
A few notes: The Albert Shanker Institute asked a few of us to create lesson plans around the anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. I’m proud to have contributed a math-focused one. Check them out. [ShareMyLesson] John Spencer gives us seven thoughts on whether teachers should get political. [Education Rethink] Child […]
