This is a story about speeding tickets and landscape photography. I've been waiting for months to post this screen capture of a lovely letter that the Icelandic police sent me, along with the photo which turned me into a law breaker! A memorable souvenir, exquisite and quite expensive, most certainly a fine art print involving fantastic technique, where a camera was able to get a fine quality image of a car cruising at more than 100km/h, in absolute darkness, with decent quality, including a closeup of my gorgeous exhausted face! I had spent the last day of my Iceland 2014 September trip shooting the stunning mountain of Vesturhorn, and time went by way too quick. I had a plane to catch at midnight, and still many hundreds of kilometers to make till the Keflavik airport. We left Vestuhorn already quite late, and didn't have a single minute left. Well, at least until the sky suddenly started changing colors and Nature gave us the most stunning display of color of the whole trip. We could miss the flight, but the golden hour (I'd rather call it "epic hour") occurred right when we were passing by Jokulsarlon and, as soon as I knew, I was stopped right by the ice lagoon, frantically searching for my photo equipment. I only had 10 minutes to shoot, before the intense colours would disappear, and my tripod was buried inside my check-in bag. I had to shoot this scene handheld, and did the best I could. I cannot even imagine how incredible it must have been to the other photpiographers who had the time to be there and properly prepare their shooting session. Many people were photographing the scene and I could feel the adrenaline rush around me, as everyone knew this was one of those special moments...

Once it got dark, and our heart went back to its regular rythm, we realized what we had done, and so did the car engine, and so did the Icelandic police...

(PS: after my Iceland two week trip next week, I'll finally write an article about speeding laws in Iceland. Right now, just a simple word of caution: do never ever cross the 90km/h limit!)
