What does copyright have to do with car repair? As ridiculous as it sounds, sections of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act could actually prevent car owners from looking under the hood—or even protecting themselves from vulnerabilities and malware. But there's something you can do.

Easy, useful fast tip. Save your open buffers, splits, cursor positions, among other stuff.
save it with:
:mksession session_name
load it with
:source session_name

Can be costumized to omit or include other stuff.
Hope it helps.

The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission produced its first global map of rainfall and snowfall, from April to September 2014. The data map combines measurements from 12 satellites and the GPM Core Observatory, launched Feb 27, 2014, covers 87 percent of the globe and is updated every half hour. A friend of mine works at a police department and they hired a statistician to determine where to best put their officers, especially on holiday evenings.  She comes up with mathematical models on where they'll most likely be needed.

The new hype-o-matic Apple laptop is the ~same weight (maybe ~100g lighter), same thickness (13mm), same storage and RAM as my laptop ... but with a worse processor, a worse screen (lower resolution, no touch), far fewer ports (hell, mine has ethernet) ... and I bought mine last year for about the same price ... and I'm not stuck in a closed hardware ecosystem. Really, Apple, that's the best you could do? boggle

In the center of this image, taken with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, is the galaxy cluster SDSS J1038+4849 — and it seems to be smiling.

You can make out its two orange eyes and white button nose. In the case of this “happy face”, the two eyes are very bright galaxies and the misleading smile lines are actually arcs caused by an effect known as strong gravitational lensing.

Galaxy clusters are the most massive structures in the Universe and exert such a powerful gravitational pull that they warp the spacetime around them and act as cosmic lenses which can magnify, distort and bend the light behind them. This phenomenon, crucial to many of Hubble’s discoveries, can be explained by Einstein’s theory of general relativity.

In this special case of gravitational lensing, a ring — known as an Einstein Ring — is produced from this bending of light, a consequence of the exact and symmetrical alignment of the source, lens and observer and resulting in the ring-like structure we see here.

reDiaspora ... giving Diaspora another spin as family is starting to join it as a replacement for Facbook. family was my only reason for being on Facebook anymore, and even then I closed my account months ago ... Diaspora's layout and functionality is more akin to Facebook than G+ imo (not a good or bad thing), so it's a fairly natural replacement. it's rather cut-down from facebook's increasingly confusing maze of "stuff" and has none of the privacy-invasion-by-design (did you catch that facebook is now tracking users across the web even when they aren't logged in to facebook? yay...)

the real challenge is that these networks are really only as valuable as the people on them and how much they use them. it would be nice to see more action in my stream over there, so if you have a FB account that you still use, why not think about jumping ship to diaspora .. spread the word and together we might create enough value in the diaspora network for it to gain something closer to critial mass... link below!

“The Tenth Doctor once claimed the cats on Earth weren't native to the planet, but were aliens.” let me ponder. Reply. Oracle says: July 29, 2014 at 7:56 am. I laughed till I snorted, then I laughed at that! Reply. Karen says: July 29, 2014 at 9:31 am. The only way to laugh. ;-) ...
