If you are on App Engine, do this one weird trick for faster sites, smaller images.
Let App Engine and PageSpeed Service automatically handle serving webp images to clients that understand webp. For other clients, no problem, the original file is sent.
WebP is an image codec that is typically smaller than traditional web image formats. Smaller images means faster load times means happier users.
1) Go to App Engine admin console.
2) Click "Application Settings"
3) Enable PageSpeed Service
4) Add this to your app.yaml:
You can of course play with all the fun PageSpeed service options, but this is showing how you can select only WebP.
