After three days of sleeplessness, fevers, and chills I went back to St. Paul’s Hospital.  The cellulitis had gone from my ankle up my calf and almost to my knee.  As of 5:00 a.m. this morning, the infection was winning. So the plan was to be at St.…

When I criticized Field Turf going into SMF Field, I was ridiculed when I pointed to research that showed that the heat and things like ACL and MCLs would be on the rise.  The argument was that it was better then the old Gordie Howe field was often…

A 1970 documentary about the rising power of the Soviet Navy by of all people, the U.S. Navy. I assume the target audience was U.S. Senators just before budget time.

Despite a lot of rhetoric from Stephen Harper and the Conservatives, the threat from Jihad is overstated (at least in the United States which is far more of a target than Canada). The slaying of nine African-Americans in a Charleston, S.C., church last…

No, it’s not Darren Hill’s re-election slogan, about Cosmo, the North Bridge, or about rising crime in Mayfair. A Spadina Crescent home where author Farley Mowat once lived will not receive heritage designation, which could have brought the owner up to…

For seven eight months now, I have been battling this infection in my foot.  It has gone from a part of my foot into my ankle, my skin (cellulitis) , and now my bone marrow.  They have been pumping me full of antibiotics and then to keep from developing…

Over two years ago I found myself at a crossroads in my life.  I had just quit my job after being almost 8 years on 24 call of some sort or another.  It got to the point where I cringed and flinched every time a phone would ring. I was working on some…

When you build smaller jails and stop treating jail as a business, you start to have to come up with more creative solutions to keep non-dangerous people out of jail. This is partially why residents balked at Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman’s…

I use a knife at work and for months, I have used a Strider folding knife.  Strider makes knives for Seal Team 6 and they are really, really nice knives.  This one is smaller but still looks intimidating which isn’t the look I was going for.  I found a…

Every once in a while I go into Wikipedia and start to read about Scientology.  It reads to me like a religion that The Onion made up (maybe all religion seems like that to a non-believer) but still I find it so bizarre and so celebrity driven (okay, if…

It’s a worthwhile idea Coun. Charlie Clark wants city council to explore the idea of adding two additional civilians to the city’s board of police commissioners. “Police boards are set up with the intent of providing a buffer between politicians and…

Working hard to make Saskatoon a better city to live in.
Introduction
Since 1995, I have been trying to help people.  Whether that is helping the answer some of the deeper questions in life or just trying to make sure the homeless have a safe place to sleep that night, it's what I do with a lot of passion.

I have managed homeless shelters, launched programs, and now am working at making Saskatoon a better place to live by building quality affordable housing.  How much fun is that?

I have an obscure weblog, I write a little bit, some of that appears every Monday in The StarPhoenix and you can listen to me on 650 CKOM's Afternoon Show roundtable.
Bragging rights
I once hung up on former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney because I thought it was a crank call.
