Awesome, Destin. This is my new favorite of your videos. Science is all about the attempt to eliminate our biases.

This, I believe, is an extension of perceptual adaptation. There is the famous inverted-glasses experiment. Read about that here.

Does it bother anyone else that the player doesn't seem to know how to queue orders? That was one of the key features that (IMO) set TA far above the other RTS games of its time.

I would like to meet the folks who are responsible for developing Microsoft Test Manager and its associated programming interface. Then I would like to punch them right in their stupid faces. I just spent several days figuring out a way to copy test cases from one instance of TFS to another, mostly by trial and error because the documentation on MSDN is so abysmal. Note to Microsoft developer division: if you want people to upgrade to the newest version of your tools, you need to make the process as painless as possible.

Playing Hero Kids with the fam last weekend. Jake really enjoyed the game, but Kyra got bored and wandered off after about 20 minutes. Maybe she'll be more ready in another year or so.

I would love to try and get my little ones into stuff like this. I think I can wait a while for my son to be old enough. 14 months doesn't quite cut it for table top gaming.

I can tell you from personal experience that the SU-8 has a painfully long aim time, and it's ridiculously inaccurate to boot. So if you get into the situation shown, and can get him to turn his tracks even a little bit, you have about a 5 second window where it's more than likely to miss completely, even at point blank.

I'm geeking out over here. Wizards (my employer) was featured on Planet Money yesterday.
Faced with an asset bubble, the creators of Magic: The Gathering came up with a plan—a plan to once and for all conquer the science of bubbles, and make a collectible toy that could live forever.

I have a bunch of gamer friends, so I thought I'd share this Kickstarter project I'm backing. Decorative wood boxes designed for carrying your dice (or whatever). This guy has been making them as gifts for friends for a while now, but got a huge response when his girlfriend posted pictures on Reddit. He decided to try turning it into a business and hit his funding goal after just a few hours. There are still plenty of reward slots left if you're interested.
Awesome wooden boxes for gaming dice!

I guess this is never going to show in theaters. At least it's available for streaming.

If it makes you feel better, it wasn't all that good.  It had a couple funny parts, but I left feeling like it was waaaaaay overhyped.  If you haven't watched it already, I can throw it in a dropbox for you.

Toad the Wet Sprocket at the Showbox last night. 20 years since the last time I saw them play, and they're still a great band.
