The purpose of the Pink Reading Material is to allow independent practice with reading 3-letter words that use "short" vowel sounds. This material is also self-correcting because each card only has one picture to match. It is a useful activity to perfect pronunciation of simple words, since the words chosen emphasize a clear vowel sound.

Our Casa student loves to work on a Dot game:
8369+9870+11,426+7493+6508+24,788+17,913. This is a very popular choice among older Casa students, the Dot Game introduces the child to the 10,000 place value and allows the child a further level of mathematical abstraction in addition. It is an important lesson in the math curriculum, presenting a way for young children to work with increasingly large numbers.

Dr. Montessori developed special math materials designed to isolate specific skills and allow independent practice. The majority of materials for ages 3-6 are concrete, meaning the children can touch and feel the difference between quantity, rather than abstract representations of numbers. The young child's mind cannot fully grasp what the numerals mean, so first the child practices matching quantities with symbols 1-100. To help them transition, and to teach numeral recognition, activities such as the Hundred Board are introduced. Practicing this activity repetively helps the child to learn increasingly abstract and complicated mathematical operations.

The World Continents Puzzle Map is a favorite in our Casa classroom! The children can study durable, proportionate wooden pieces to touch and feel the size differences between continents, and singing the continents song reinforces their learning also.

The children feel a lot of excitement when they are able to work with the Addition Snake Game! It helps them identify sets of 10, which will solidify their knowledge of basic addition facts, such as 4+6, 7+3, all equalling 10. Children love this activity, one of many 'games' in the Montessori math curriculum!

One of our extracurricular offerings in Violin instruction in Chinese. The children have been working hard and making a lot of progress in this class! Learning the violin is not easy, and we are super impressed with their dedication to this beautiful classical instrument!
