+Joyce Donahue That's the plan. I may have a very rough outline just to keep me from going too far down a rabbit hole, but my plan is not too over think this too much.

An interesting article on evangelizing Millennials from the Barna Group.

Barna Group has some really good stuff. One of our office consultants is always referring to their survey results, studies and books.

I find it interesting that 49% of those who leave  Protestant churches  apparently do so in spite experiencing some of the "best practices" and good outcomes.  (That's when subtracting the 51%  who experienced  "none of the above")   And... that 23% who stayed, did so despite no good  experiences. :-)

+Jeff Stevens Like I said, I'm no expert; our diocese is looking into whether this applies to nonprofits. But my understanding is that there is no distinction. It's about whether you have a compelling interest.

To take me as an example: I have a compelling interest in promoting the activities of my office because more participation makes our bishop happy and keeps my employed. ;-) So there is some "pressure" for me to use my public social media presences to get the word out, even if it's not asked for and it's something I would be happy to promote if I weren't a diocesan employee.

It's important to note that compelling interest doesn't necessarily mean direct monetary interest. I don't make any money when someone attends an event sponsored by my office, but I do have an interest that is inextricable from my role in our diocese.

As +Anthony Fink put it, it's about being honest about our interests when we put something in the public square -- letting people know that this isn't just something cool we discovered and that we're sharing, but is something that we have a connection to. Then they can decide if that interest colors our recommendation.

The last of my #BuildingABetterDisciple  webinars was last night; the video is now up. Thanks to everyone who participated. Five webinars in five weeks was exhausting, but a lot of fun!

"Is it any wonder that so many people leave our parishes on Sunday morning without spiritual fervor when we offer them cheap treats?"
When I was a kid, my favorite stop on Halloween was a house one block over from ours. Besides being friends and super-nice people, they gave out large boxes of Cracker Jack to the neighborhood kids. (And keep in mind this was in the era of good Cracker Jack prizes.) ...

Originally dedicated in 1928, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was beautifully restored in 2009. Be sure to check out the unique stained glass windows and beautiful mosaics.
