Meltingly tender steak in a savoury gravy encased in flaky, buttery, golden pastry makes this pepper steak pie a killer dish.

I am really enjoying these Warcraft lore podcasts. It's a deep dive, but if you have any interest at all in WoW lore at all it's highly engaging.
Welcome to the 3rd episode of Lore Watch! Lore Watch is a podcast that explores a single lore subject about the World of Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, or any other games that interest us. Join hosts Anne Stickney, Matthew Rossi, and Joe Perez for an in-depth look at the evolving stories of the games we all love. Are …

I'm not exactly sure what this means. But it does seem to capture my mood. Especially related to people in sales requesting new app features which start with the phrase, "This won't take long to add."

"This won't take long to add." means you haven't thought about the thing you're asking for. At all. Even worse, you think adding a new database column is really quick. Like all the data models just suddenly start using the new column, and the business logic around the new data magically codes itself, and tests automatically appear, and plopping a new workflow in the UI won't screw up anything, and documentation writes itself, and we won't need user training because yer all so savvy.

Pfft.

The temperature here has been in the 90s lately, with humidity running up to 80%+. I'm wilting rather seriously. And the cheap apartment I'm in has no AC. So it's like an oven. I decided to get one of those portable AC units, which is crazy expensive, but I've reached my limit. NEED COOL.

Finally made it to Puesto's fancy sit down place at Seaport Village. The tacos were pretty good. Not as good as City Tacos or some of the mariscos truck fare. Certainly not as good as the super cheap authentic street tacos available all over town. And the yucky grilled cheese thing they do just has no place on a taco. Worst of all, three small tacos, guacamole and a beer was $34, before tip and parking. Certainly not worth it. Maybe for tourists who live in places that don't have tacos.

We can avoid Puesto. They look like machine made tortillas.

I love this beer kit from Austin Homebrew. I've made it three times now and it's been awesome every time. But more than any other beer I've made, it really need some aging. Before 4 weeks in the keg it's poor to average at best. But after 2-3 months it turns into some of the best porter I've ever had. The batch I just kegged got a pound of Mexican chocolate added right at the end of fermentation. Oh my. Now to wait 2-3 months so I can drink some of it. No way I'm going to waste a single glass seeing if it's ready yet. Just. Wait.

Next up, a cranberry pale ale.

I keep seeing lots of posts about the life benefits of doing daily affirmations. Basically counting your blessings daily. Either starting the morning with a list of the positive things to remind you through the day that life is good. Or ending the day listing all the happy making things that happened. Focusing on the positive and pretty much ignoring the negative. I'm happy this works for others, but it doesn't for me. It makes me feel like I've established my own little cult with one member, and my cult's thing is hiding behind the walls of denial and false hope.

So... yeah.... obviously I'm doing it wrong.

If it works for you, fantastic. Just because your self-help strategy doesn't work for me doesn't mean I wouldn't support it working for you. I don't find it silly or misguided. I just find it 100% useless in my life.

I find it better to meet the negative crap in my life head on. Understand it, learn from it, fix it. Mix it with a healthy dose of the positive stuff and move on with a balanced life. Build a life, rather than build a narrative.

Right now the "fix" is something I really don't want. Building a wall around my heart, finding a cave and crawling in, and pushing a boulder across the entrance behind me. But in my 53 years on this Earth I've found it to be the one fix that works in these situations.

I really wish the daily affirmation thing worked for me. That sounds like more fun than making my heart hard like a rock and focusing everything inward.

Sure, it's a big corporate chain. But the tacos are still legit. Better can be had from the trucks and mom&pop places if you can track them down, but there should be no shame in just heading to King Taco.

This place seems to be much more about reputation than good tacos. Not bad, but also not worth the inflated prices. I don't mind waiting in line for great food, but this wasn't it. Better tacos can be found all over SoCal for half as much, with no line.
