Big #budget2015  news if you missed it yesterday - could this be the end of Self Assessment?
Despite promises to the contrary, George Osborne had a few rabbits in his hat when he stepped up to deliver the last Budget of the current Parliament today. Notably – and after several years of giving the self-employed the cold shoulder – two changes that will directly benefit the UK’s freelancers and contractors . The first, the abolition of Class 2 National Insurance contributions, will be a welcome change, however may... Read more »

The Green Party are ahead by a whisker in our poll. Who do you think will offer the best support for freelancers and contractors at the General Election?
David Cameron has repeatedly proclaimed the Conservatives are “the party of small businesses” – in fact he did so just this Monday during a speech announcing an extension of the Startup Loans scheme . The list of small business support schemes launched by the current Government is certainly impressive: Startup Loans, National Insurance Holidays, New Enterprise Allowance, the Employment Allowance , Employee Shareholder Contracts and Vince Cable’s ...

Bonjour - we just published this call for the main political parties to do more to support the self-employed and micro-businesses at the Election. Now looking for thoughts on how we can spur them into action - anyone?

+Simply Business Ahh interesting - are you seeing this as a different job to the "self-employment tsar" that was announced recently? Or one person looking after all one person / micro businesses?

Exciting - +Crunch Accounting are now the recommended accountant for Uber's partner drivers in the UK.

Now that Uber is slowly expanding its UK operations, it needs to do everything in its power to maintain and grow its pool of drivers. To this end, the co

What would happen if the UK's 4.5 million self-employed suddenly got political? I took a look for the +Crunch Accounting blog.

Hi +enna ibowi, I'm at Tesco in Hove quite a bit and I can't say I've ever noticed that.

It's usually just retirees when I visit.

Some nice debunking going on here.

There are lots of misconceptions about the self-employed out there - +Sophie Turton explains why they're often not true in +The Guardian.

Britain's 4.5m self-employed workers face many misconceptions. But are the nation's freelancers really just a bunch of unskilled, underpaid mavericks? • Self-employment: how to set up as your own boss • Freelance or self-employed? Here's how to survive

Ordered £90 worth of pizza for an event, they arrived 40 minutes late despite repeated assurances they'd be there on time. Was also informed they couldn't provide a receipt, so instead got a scrap of paper saying "Pizza - £90" on it. Food was late, staff were rude, but the pizza tasted OK, so at least they've got something going for them.

Bit of a mixed experience. The dining room was chilly almost to the point where we wanted to put our coats on, and the service was pretty lacklustre (had to ask multiple times for drinks / menus, orders were mixed up). However, the food was amazing. So if you want a really great steak and don't care about a confused waiter or a cold restaurant, highly recommended!

A really great roast - makes a nice alternative to a packed pub on a Sunday for only a few quid more.
