I saw a quad-copter drone buzzing around the neighborhood a few weeks back, and thought somebody was just having fun. Turns out somebody is creating interesting real-estate videos with them: http://vimeopro.com/nonenone/635-glencoe-road-excelsior-mn

Some friends of mine launched this iOS game - "Get Your Goat" on the iPhone 4S or iPad for $0.99, featuring the "Scream as load as you can" input device. Warning - my 5 year old is now hoarse from screaming (and laughing).
Get Get Your Goat on the App Store. See screenshots and ratings, and read customer reviews.

Funny stuff from the mad halls of MS Research... my favorite line so far:
The C++ STL, with its dyslexia-inducing syntax blizzard of colons
and angle brackets, guarantees that if you try to declare any
reasonable data structure, your first seven attempts will result
in compiler errors of Wagnerian fierceness:

Syntax error: unmatched thing in thing from std::nonstd::_ _
map<_Cyrillic, $$$dollars>const basic_string< epic
mystery,mongoose_traits < char>, _ default_alloc<casual_
Fridays = maybe>>

One time I tried to create a list<map<int>>, and my syntax
errors caused the dead to walk among the living. Such things
are clearly unfortunate.
James Mickens has written a number of essays for ;login: magazine. The wall-of-text presentation is kind of scary, and the first time I encountered them, I skimmed the essays rather than reading them through. As a result, my reaction was, "I got tired." But if you follow the path and read the ...

Mantle: Interesting new low-level graphics/compute API from AMD, with beta drivers appearing "any minute now". At least one demo app already available for benchmarking: http://store.steampowered.com/app/267130/

Good coffee, music, wine and beer! A popular Excelsior hangout that is pretty busy in the mornings and evenings. Plenty of outlets and OK wifi as well.

Tasty stop for lunch, but I expect it gets more dinner traffic. Great service. Decor/theme is a 60/70's hard-rock theme (framed concert posters) - but is not played obnoxiously loud and enjoyable. I strongly recommend the goat cheese bruschetta appetizer and prickly pear chicken sandwich, which has a great flavor and slow burn. They also have a good kids menu (pizza w/french fries, free ice cream for desert - tempered with healthy addition of raw carrots, orange slices, and celery).
