Jon is a technologist at Internews. Former Tech Strategist for Ashoka's @changemakers . ICT/Mobile 4 Dev Geek. Also avid gardener, homebrewer, salsa dancer, cook, husband, and dork.
Prior to Internews, Mr. Camfield was the technology strategist at Ashoka, where he co-led platform development for the Changemakers platform for sourcing and accelerating social innovations. In this role, he bridged project goals and community needs with long term strategic needs to manage the development of the platform.
Prior to that, he directed the technology program at YSA, where he re-launched both YSA's main website as well as the platform for Global Youth Service Day, YSA's flagship program using open source content management frameworks. In addition, Mr. Camfield has consulted for NGOs on technology, knowledge management, and business process issues in Nicaragua and Venezuela as well as many in the United States.
From 2002 to 2004, Jon served in the Peace Corps, where he worked with the Jamaican Ministry of Education on open source and educational technology and training projects. These projects included training over 3,000 teachers in basic technology and Internet skills, building multiple self-guided resource CDs for computer labs and NGOs island-wide, and building an early SMS-centric intranet for volunteer communication.
Jon has a Master's degree in International Science and Technology Policy, focused on the use of information and communication technologies in development contexts from the Elliot School at GWU (07). He holds a bachelors' degree from the University of Texas' prestigious Plan II honors program (99).
