Free forming: We used laser metal deposition and corrosion-resistant Inconel 625 to create a flat sheet of metal to cut out samples for a tensile test, building up the sheet layer by layer. We wanted to see how blown powder compared to a wrought material. The results showed that blown powder is slightly lower in performance than wrought material, but not too far off. #corrosion #lasercladding #americancladiators https://hubs.ly/H0bFxhR0

Problem solved: This tooling fixture for a hollow shielding gas tool needed to have a plate welding over the open side to seal it up. Once the plate was on, we couldn’t see the areas that we needed to weld, so we used NCPlot to convert the model of the bottom piece into CNC coordinates. The whole program was built and ready to go in 20 minutes, instead of spending hours on calculations. #laserwelding #joiningtech #laser #CNC #NCPlot

Our MakerBot 3D printer recently cranked out this V block prototype fixture for a customer’s new part in 3 hours. We were able to take it right over to our shop floor and start laser welding without waiting to manufacture it in our machine shop.
