We are talking about our commitment to buying animals within 75 mile radius of our shoppe in Rio, Wisconsin, buying whole animals instead of boxed meat, and buying from small family farmers. We buy local for three main reasons-- quality, taste, and locally raised meats are more sustainable.

All of our meat products are made in-house...
Where old-world influences and modern practices combine to produce incredible results with amazing flavors.

Come in and enjoy our steaks and chops, dried and smoked meats, sausage and bacon, world-renowned jerky, cheeses, and much more. LOST CAPE - If I could vote for a zero stars I would. Let me first let everyone know this is the first review I have EVER written and the only reason I am writing this is so people don't get treated like I did and have to go through the same situation. I brought in a very nice 9 point buck in mid November during bow season around 8 o'clock at night. I live an hour away so it was a bit of a drive but I had no other choice as everything else was closed at the time, if I had waited until the next day none of this would have happened but then again the truth about what goes on at this place would come to light either. Anyhow, when dropping the deer off I specified I wanted it caped out they said not a problem, gave me the tag for getting it caped, put it on the deer and told me to take the deer out back and someone would be waiting for you. I drove around, dropped it off and watched some guy drag it into the back of the wear house. Little did I know that would be the last time I ever saw the rack. When I came to pick up the meat a couple months later I got all the meat back (not how I wanted but thats a whole different issue) and there was no cape to be found. They searched for awhile but came up with nothing. I texted the owner a picture of the deer so they could look at it and try to find it and they said they would call me the next day with results. About a week went by and I didn't hear anything so I ended up calling them. After a long heated conversation confirming that they had lost the cape I was accused of black mailing and I wouldn't receive any compensation for my lost cape. I argued more and the owner finally got her to agree to call other meat processing shops to see what they would do in this situation. About a month went by with no contact. Within that month I called several times and left messages but the owner magically always seemed to be "out" when I called. I finally got in touch with her and she again confirmed that they lost my cape (we had already discussed this once before) and I asked her what other meat processing shops had said. She said she never called any. I had done my own calling and out of the two places I called both said they would give me a refund and/or some type of compensation. After explaining this to her she said she would refund me the $40 for the cape and give me a gift card. It took her about a week to refund the money and if have yet to receive any gift card and I have no expectations of getting one at this point. I had to pry to get my $40 back and luckily didn't have to go to court for items I did not receive. For those of you that have read this far I strongly urge you not to go here. With the cost of the processing ($350) and the worst customer service I've ever experienced I will steer all hunting and farmers a like away from this shop. There are much more reputable places full of people willing to help you out unlike this one. I hope sharing this experience will save you from losing a cape and being treated with disrespect.

This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with. They absolutely ruined my wedding, which I will never get to redo. Threatening to call the police stating we refused to pay. We did NOT refuse to pay, the amount they gave their cooks was $1,400 more than what we were given on the contract emailed to us, so the cooks told us to call the next morning and deal with David- the manager and Chris-the owner. They threatened to call the police on their own staff if they did not return with a check from us. David failed to show up for our first tasting, then proceed to tell the owner of the ranch that it was our fault after stating on the phone to me "he dropped the ball and forgot to send the menu to his chef". They LOST our $1,700 deposit then tried blaming it on us, stating we better get to the bank and get the check to prove we actually paid it. Chris called me the Sunday before my wedding stating that I better not get an attitude if I want there to be food at my wedding, I was explaining how upset I was that not only did he no show for our tasting but they now had lost our deposit. She then hung up on me. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with and I would not recommend them to anyone. Please, please, think twice before you use them.

I have always had good service from the Johnson's Sausage Shoppe. On my last visit I purchased an assortment of meats for our employees at work. I had a friendly greeting when I walked in and great service in helping me pick out what I needed. Everything tasted great, as always, and my employees loved the snacks! I also like knowing my money is going back into the community and is supporting a locally owned family business. I will continue to give my business to this establishment.

Thieves! I received 50% to 52% of the hanging weight of my steer and hog that I brought in. I was told no, no, you did get the correct amount. Chris is a nice lady but I was taken advantage of, everyone I talked to told me I got screwed over. I am not one for complaining but after further review; I took a similar hog and steer to another butcher and I received 72% and 74% of the hanging weight with the same cuts of meat. Long story short, find another place to go to. My trust was ruined with this place and I won’t be back or recommend them to anyone. I drove far out of my for this place to support an independent but I just got screwed over in the end. I guess this must be how they are able to pay for such a world class clean facility.

Me and a few freiends bought a steer from a farmer that weighed 1150 lbs. We took it to Johnsons for processing because we heard good things. We were so wrong!! When we got our meat back, first they would not weigh it in front of us. When we got home there was only 90lbs of beef per qaurter. That 360lbs of meat total. I called three other places in the surounding area to see what a normal return is on a quarter and they all told me between 120lbs on the low end and 160 on the high end for a steer that size. Thats 120 to 200 lbs of missing beef. We tried calling and leaving messages and Chris, the owner, never called back. The worst place to go for processing!! I ended up paying $4.40 a lb. When the stores i would pay 3.15. I will never go back to Johnsons for anything again in my life!!

WAY overpriced on just about everything! Most employees talk to you in monotone with no emotion, with the exception of a few. Mark's Market is cheaper but Johnson's has a bigger selection. Liquer is overpriced as well. Go to Strauss Mobil if you are buying alcohol.
