Hi steph clarke, thanks for taking the time to send this feedback to us. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience we may have caused you. This is a Public Auction, not a consumer or a retail sale, we have liquidation, returns, ex-display, second-hand and damaged goods, as we state on our website. The company mantra is “VIEW, BID, BUY”. And we really can’t emphasise that enough. We do get complaints. But only really from bidders who haven’t been along to an auction to check out what they are buying. Please, to avoid disappointment, ALWAYS go for viewing! Given the opportunity, we would like to learn more details about your case, please email us with relevant details at your convenience. reviw@johnpye.co.uk

Got stung in the car auctions, cars that arrive with keys, but that turn out to have engine faults, suddenly don't have keys anymore, they seem to get lost, and auctioned as "No keys" instead of "Engine fault" as you can get more money for a car that isn't advertised as "Engine fault". The 3 minute rule is a pure scam and not normal auction practice, just allows John Pye to run the bids up higher themselves using a computer. You cant see how many bidders there are or who you are bidding against, pure trickery. I have no proof, obviously, its just my experience, however i would bet on it. Also, be aware of any company that has to reply to every single one of the google reviews left by customers. Their replies and concern are just for show, to cover their backsides and make it seem like they care. Reputable businesses don't need to continuously sweep up the aftermath of disgruntled customers. Saying "please email us your concerns" is the modern way of saying "Go away, we don't care, we already have your money". Apart from those minor issues, its not a bad auction. Wait for it..."Dear Adam, we are sorry to hear you have a negative experience with us. Please email info@johnpye.co.uk with your invoice number and registered email address, so we can investigate further... This review is to warn other people like myself that are trying to earn an honest living. I do not want you to get ripped off as i did. Be careful with this "auction".

Hi adam Saunders, thanks for taking the time to send this feedback to us. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience we may have caused you. On our vehicle auctions we have seized, bankrupt and repossessed vehicles, as we state on our website. Auction vehicles are sold as they lie with no guarantees. Seized vehicles can exclude keys, history, MOTs, etc. We strongly advise bidders to come along to the viewing days to see all vehicles that will be in the public online auction. We even go so far as to say that if you are in any doubt as to the suitability of any lot, we advise you not to bid. Given the opportunity, we would like to learn more details about your case, please email us with relevant details at your convenience. info@johnpye.co.uk

Totally agree with Philip Veater. I've bought two washing machines, two tumble driers, various exercise equipment and pictures from John Pye during the last 2-3 years without any problems. Everything continues to work well and was acquired at a substantial discount to the prevailing market price. There are significant bargains to be had but equally well Caveat Emptor! John Pye are entirely clear on the need to view pre-auction. These days, far too many people seem to want to absolve themselves of any personal responsibility for their actions. If you simply cannot be bothered to do your homework before bidding then learn from the experience. Grow a pair and stop whinging! Turning to the 'hammer' and VAT, just multiply your budget by 100/144 to calculate your maximum bid. It's not rocket science.

BUYER BEWARE should be in bold, highlighted and then underlined ! Having rung them the day before the auction was to end, they confirmed to me that the Microsoft software which i was intending to bid on, was indeed unactivated and unregistered......... End result was that i ended up with £550 of useless registered / Activated software ( confirmed by Microsoft themselves ).... Having made several phone calls to John Pye explaining the situation, i was told repeatedly that a manager would contact me back............Waiting.........Still Waiting........ Get the Picture !

Got a nice PC for half of the market price. The other day I purchased a camera that was faulty, but it was my decision not to view it before I made the bid. Come and view your items before you make a bid.

I'm quite new to buying at auctions but over the past few weeks have now purchased three items from John Pye (Nottingham). The transaction went smoothly and collection was a breeze. I've taken a chance on the condition of the items I've bought by not viewing in person but for the most part it has been so far so good. The 20% buyers premium and 20% VAT is not a hidden charge and stated clearly on the website so even a newbie like me could work it out. Also I've only purchased small (under £20 ) items which didn't really require a viewing but if buying larger viewing is obviously recommended. I've seen some negative reviews from people believing they've been ripped off but come on guys, use some common sense. When collecting the item I worked out for myself I needed to visit the sales office, even when having paid online, to collect my paperwork so that could have been made clearer on the website or invoice for newbies! Also I did buy one item (a child's toy) that had obviously broken front wheels not visible in the photo. It would have been nice if the listing had 'broken' in there somewhere but again it was my choice not to view the item in person so 'you takes your chances' as they say - plus I managed to repair it :)
