It's actually pretty simple; the creators of these racing divisions need to pick one of two options: driver focused or car focused. For example, NASCAR is pretty much driver focused. Each team doesn't differ too much, and there are pretty strict rules on what teams can and can't do to the cars. The real racing comes down to the actual drivers. On the other hand, F1 is car focused. While there are rules setup for what you can and can't do, the real stars of the show are the technical directors who push the envelope with each iteration of their cars, pretty much trying to circumvent every single rule. The problem with F1 is that they're trying to play to both crowds and failing miserably. You can't have drivers, for all intents and purposes, driving different cars and calling it a fair race. Is there a reason that Caterham and Marussia are always in the back? Is it because of the drivers? Throw Vettle in a Caterham and see how he does. The point is that in F1, whomever has the best car will most probably win. The level of drivers in F1, when compared to their peers, are pretty even. The top 5 teams all possess championship-winning drivers, and yet this past season the races were relatively 1-sided. In some effort to make it more exciting, the FIA has change the points rule and whatnot, because they've realized that they're a car-focused division that wants to become more driver focused. Most fans associate themselves to the drivers and not to the team, but it's the teams that are the real participants in F1. It's the teams (and really the cars) that truly determine who will win/lose the championship. Problem is, when you have a team like IRBR that dominates, you lose fans.

The Truth Behind Advertising

I was in San Francisco not to long ago, and when touring the SFMOMA, I found this is a quote by Dieter Rams, chief of design at Braun. It also summarizes my viewpoint on anything I buy, use, make, and create.

Advertising is all fine and dandy, but what it really needs is less spin and more truth. If the product you make it that damn good, you shouldn't have to over sell the product.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Collection by Porsche Design Studio

I saw this posted a couple months ago on a number of blogs that I read, but I never thought that I would see one in person. Lo' and behold, it selling at Costco for $300. Double the price for a bottle of Blue Label to get a fancy case with some glasses? Maybe. I'm definitely considering it.

Haha, $300 is a bit rich for my birthday. Plus, I don't really drink whiskey (but then again, it is Blue Label). I think this would be better suited as a gift for one of the cousins. They LOOOVE they're whiskey.

Awesomely hilarious.

Seriously unsafe, but man, if this happened, I'd die. Not from suffocation or burns, but from laughter.

Breakfast

So I usually don't do breakfast. Actually, I can say that I NEVER do breakfast during a workday. I think the last time I had breakfast when I was in the office was... never. But my Mom gave me this, and it happens to be one of my favorite things, so yeah, breakfast of champions.

I can tell you now as I type this, it's delicious.
