Over at Sundance.tv, where I am writing occasional things about film, I’ve created a quiz in honor of the upcoming Jurassic World movie, featuring somewhat obscure trivia from the first three Jurassic Park films. Get all of the quiz questions correct, and you survive. Miss one or more, and you get killed and possibly eaten by a dinosaur. Which dinosaur? It depends on how many questions you miss!

Next weekend, if you're in or near Chicago, you can attend SFWA's Nebula Award Weekend, featuring Nick Offerman as master of ceremonies. Having presided over several, I can say it's always a great time, with fantastic people. Check it out!

Hey! Another finalist position for Lock In for a science fiction award! This time it's for the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Science Fiction Novel (there's another Campbell Award, given out to new writers in the field; I won that in 2006). This is my first Campbell (novel) nomination, and that's pretty cool. See the whole finalist list at the link. Congrats to all the finalists!

I have a new gig as a film columnist withe Sundance Channel web site, and to start things off, we're having a little fun doing brackets to determine which Star Wars characters should square off in an ultimate battle of good and evil. We're choosing the finalists and the championship battle will be the next installment. Come play along and tell your friends about it!

For those curious, more details about the deal (and me), including the reveal of the title for the sequel to Lock In.

I know a lot of you have questions about the book deal I just agreed to, so let me just do that “fake interview” thing I do to answer some of the big ones. Let's begin, shall we? Wait, what happened? Sorry, I was really high last night. Fair enough. Here's the story in the New York Times, ...

Lock In is a finalist for the Locus Award in the category of Science Fiction Novel, along with The Peripheral (William Gibson), Ancillary Sword (Ann Leckie), The Three-Body Problem (Cixin Liu) and the Area X trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer. An excellent, excellent peer group. The rest of the categories are pretty amazing too. Check them out!

Good luck! The three body problem was really interesting and good. Your book Lock in was a can't put down read. Started ancillary sword but didn't get a chance to get into it. Probably will after I finish reading the A C. Clarke's Rama series. Lol

There's also some great stuff in the other categories as well - the now-complete Evangelion and Oh! My Goddess Manga are up for awards in that category and are definitely worth reading. If it wasn't for the fact that Eva Vol. 14 hadn't come out in the US this year instead of last year, I would have put it forward for nomination in the Hugos (I put up the equally good Gundam: The Origin - Battle of Loum instead).
