Join us this afternoon or any Friday afternoon at IDEA Startup Praxis, we meet at Panera Bread Cafe, 13th & Grant near the Colorado Capitol from 2 to 3:30 p.m. to share startup experience and to brainstorm. Free and open to everyone, we just ask you BYOB (bring your own brain for the brainstorming)! :-) For more and optional RSVP (most don't until they become a co-leader) see http://Meetup.com/Small-Biz-Chamber where you'll also see other groups, including the new adult self-directed learning group I'm personally organizing and facilitating, probably the last group I'll probably ever do this with, so don't miss this rare opportunity to benefit from what I've learned since organizing the first group here in Denver nearly 20 years ago.

How to start a new business.
How do you start a new business? The short answer: Get a customer. Of course there is more to it than that. Usually there is the decision to be in business. Then preparation. Then selling the first customer.  This is not a linear process. Some may be on the...

Today we talk about today's front page story in the Wall Street Journal: "U.S. Productivity: Missing or in Hiding?" and Edmund Phelps, author of Mass Flourishing who identified this problem and it's underlying causes two years ago.

We also talked about Freedom Fest and suggested that it explore combining with Bill Armstrong and John Andrews's Western Conservative Summit.

Finally we talked about a possible solution to the lack of vitalism and dynamism that is hurting our productivity today, WrenCollege.org and invited students and potential faculty members to check it out at http://www.WrenCollege.org

To be a guest on the show next week or to get help with your startup call John Wren at (303)861-1447. You can leave a complete, confidential message, I'm the only one with the code to the voice mailbox.

Read "Just Start" Harvard Business Review Press or "The Origin & Evolution of New Businesses" Oxford University Press, true pictures about how businesses really start, then judge for yourself. Businesses just don't start the way the SBA and its many offshoots say they should. Seems to me it's a tax funded trap to snuff out the true entrepreneurial spirit, and it is working.

My favorite place. Completely rebuilt where the Penrose Library used to be, I've been finding a place to think for nearly 50 years. Especially love the fact it's the home of Socrates Cafe each Saturday evening. (Join us! For more about this new meeting and others Google Colorado Socrates Cafe Society.)

BA'69 MBA'80 DU equipped me to successfully work with Pop in a 100 employee company, then after we'd sold to work as Assistant-to-the-President for a large public corporation after returning to graduate school. From there, it's been helpful in all kinds of ways to help keep me current and motivated. Today more than ever life-long learning is essential, schools are always optional, I'm now a big believer in self-directed learning, if you choose to find a school, it would be difficult to find a better one than DU.
