This won't may not look like much to most people, but this was the parking lot I parked in when I had the greatest job in the world.  Drove by it this morning after driving my mom to work (I know, I'm a good son), and it brought back some great memories...

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it...

Most revolutions and overthrowing of governments by popular uprising have come about as a result of a huge gap in wealth.  The Peasants Revolt in England, The French Revolution, the general decline from Feudalism, heck, even the American Revolution was based in part on economic inequality.  If we continue down this path as a nation, those with power, and those with wealth may wake up one day to realize it's all gone.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for earning a decent wage, and keeping what you make, but if money equals power, then with that power comes responsibility.  It's a responsibility that many with wealth have been negligent of.

Best.Flash.Mob.Ever., or BEST FLASH MOB EVER!!? I'm going with the latter.  I'd say that little girl got WAY more than she bargained for with that drop in the hat.

I've seen some great choreographed dance videos for this song, but this one takes the cake.

There's something fitting about a Rubik's Cube and Daft Punk...

Why only for couples with minor children?  If we're going to force couples to stay together until one of them commits adultery, abuses the other or packs up shop and leaves for good just because they have kids, let's make the couple that's been together for 50 years go through the same hoops.  That'll be a great 18th birthday present for some kid, huh?

"Happy Birthday!  Now that you're an adult, your mom and I are getting a divorce.  Couldn't do it before because we were legally obliged to stay together until you were an adult.  The last x years have been a complete fabrication, and we truly apologize for all the fighting you saw/heard over the last x years.  Hopefully you understand the importance of family, and your mother and I feel better knowing the last x years will have no impact on your adult life, the way you approach relationships, or how you feel about us in any way whatsoever."

Better yet, if we're looking for ways to keep young girls from being "promiscuous" maybe we should outlaw hormones.  Or mandate castration for young men who are in co-ed public schools.  This bill does nothing to really keep families together or stop promiscuity.  All it will do is make it so more and more couples delay getting married, have kids out of wedlock, and clog up the family courts even more with custody battles.   #WayToGoIowa   #Sarcasm

Honestly, if there are kids involved, the divorces NEED to happen - I know too many people who's parents stayed together for them that caused severe issues the older they became. Sometimes, parents work better alone. Even if it isn't a house of yelling and arguing, those passive parents who are silent and who are in no way in love with each other cause sometimes more harm. It makes those kids believe that relationships are meant to be this way.
Sadness from up North, that's for sure. :-(

Introduction
So I'm that cool guy everyone knows and loves to hang with...ha. In reality I'm part of the "Boomerang Generation" as I've heard it called. I live in my parents' basement while I'm working to pay off some student loans. How do I make the money to pay for loans...well, that's a good question...

 I know...I'm cool and you're jealous ;)

I'll admit I live west of the Mississippi, and we don't get a whole lot of good BBQ where I'm from. That said, this place was AMAZING!! I was on vacation and we had a rough trip getting into town, so we were a little after the usual dinner crowd when we got to the place. I actually think it was like an hour before close, maybe less. We got the BBQ Nachos as an appetizer and I was a bit skeptical at first, but they were really good. When the meals came out my friends and I were drooling because the food smelled so good. I had a beef brisket and my friend ordered the dry rub ribs. Both were tasty. The brisket wasn't the best I'd had in terms of texture, but it was flavorful worth the money in my opinion. The real star of the show though were the dinner rolls they served. I have no idea how they bake those things, but they were buttery without dripping with butter, soft, flaky, and basically the best bit of bread I've ever had with a meal. To top it off, the waitstaff was polite, quick, and generally personable. We had a nice chat with our waitress as the place was dying down for the night and she really did a great job servicing our table. I will definitely be going back when I return to Memphis and I would highly recommend that you do the same.

LOVE. That's the only word I have to describe this place. I love all the local music they bring through, and the eclectic decor on the walls makes me feel at home. I love the TV screens above the bar that spell out "Gaslamp" because it reminds me of a late 80's early 90's version of MTV. I love the staff, they're always nice, prompt to get around to you, and take care of you. I also love the extra parties and stuff they host. Halloween 2011 was a blast, and I can't wait to see what comes out this year.

If you would like a testament to how good this place is for food and drinks, try getting a table there. This place is so good, I've shown up at 8:00 at night on a weeknight only to find a 30 min. wait just to get seated. If you go earlier in the day you can check out some of the local shops in the East Village area (which is highly recommended as well). Long story short, this place has amazing burgers with great themes to them. The burgers are juicy, full of flavor and essentially come topped with just about anything you could imagine on a burger. Along with the fries I don't think you'll be disappointed in the food...you just have to be patient and willing to wait for it.

So you think you know something about beer? These guys definitely know about beer. With over 105 different kinds of beer on tap you'll be hard-pressed not to find something to whet your whistle. The bar staff knows their brews pretty well, and if you can give them an idea of what you like in a beer, they can make a good recommendation. Don't forget to stop by for Jimmy Carter Happy Hour on Thursday nights for some local brew sampling. Great atmosphere in the outdoor seating areas and when the weather cooperates it might be the best spot in Des Moines for a cold one.

I wouldn't recommend this place simply as a place to have a few drinks. That's not really their strength. The real value here is the shows that come through. For a downtown venue they get some really awesome acts to come through the Des Moines area. On nights that there are shows going on, drink to your heart's content, but if you're looking for a place to enjoy some friends I'd recommend picking one of the other establishments in the area.

I fancy myself a beer fan, and this place has got some beer. Although much of what's on tap is an import, they've got good imports. The Royal Mile might not have all the lights, dancing, and drunken debauchery of a frat party, but what it does have is a nice vibrant space where you can actually have a conversation with your mates. And if you can find a better soccer bar in Des Moines, I'd love to hear about it. This place plays soccer matches like it's their job, and I love 'em for it.

Tasty Tacos is a Des Moines favorite. If you like greasy, mexican-style comfort food this is most definitely the place to check out. The shells are probably my favorite part of the meal. It's kind of like going to a Taco Bell for a Chalupa, but even tastier. Not overly priced, and with a few locations throughout the Metro you can be sure there's one nearby.
