It was, and shall remain, a gig like no other. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and the sell out crowd knew it from the get-go.

FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE!

This is probably one of my more popular and talked about promo/portrait photos. It was actually the first time I had done band portraits back in 2011.

In this post you can read how we achieved it. Yes it was dangerous and a huge risk, but read on, this is how it was done...

I didn’t shoot nearly enough street this year as I would have liked to. I have been photographing Melbourne’s streets for close to 13 years and even if there is an air of familiarity about it all, there is still so much more that can be learnt and refined in the craft of street photography. I want to learn to get closer to my subjects in the years ahead and not be so voyeuristic in my shots. It is also time to explore other cities of the world and I plan on doing that over the next decade as I will be travelling a lot over the next few years.

Still, as predictable as Melbourne is becoming to me, I did manage to finalise a list of my 10 fave photos of the year.

They are all here for your viewing discretion. How they came to be and why they have been shortlisted is detailed below.

Have I made the right choice, you be the judge!

Enjoy!

This is a pretty important day for me. As some of you may know, I have been shortlisted for the annual Monster Children Photo Competition in the MUSIC category. This is the third year in a row I have made it this far through the competition and that alone is an achievement to be proud of. The competition receives thousands of entries each year so it is quite an accomplishment to get through to the last few.

Each category has a $5,000 prize so yeah, I’m pretty keen to win this as it will give me a chance to finance my new camera equipment. I currently shoot with a Canon 5D MKII, and I am keen to upgrade to the new MKIV model. Winning this contest, will be a huge help.

Tonight the winners will be announced in Sydney and tomorrow night in Los Angeles.

So whatever deity you hang your hat on, be it holy or unholy - send some good luck wishes my way! Gonna need all the positive energy we can muster collectively!!!

My shortlisted entry is the photo of Black Sabbath at Rod Laver Arena in 2013.

The photos I am up against can be seen via this link:

Haters are gonna hate. I know. I was one over the course of every single thing they've done from Load onwards.

This time, things are different. They have returned. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, but this is a damn fine album.

Chtulu awaken!

For what it is worth, my review...

Having a little too much time on my hands this past week, I decided on a little experiment.

I went through my last shoot with Slipknot and had a look at all the photos that had been rejected. The not-quite-right ones that usually just get forgotten.

I wanted to create monochrome versions and add a little dirt, grime and grease to them and see what we could come up with.

Collectively, I think they make for an eerie collection and work very well together. The response to these on the various social media platforms they have appeared on has been quite favourable.
