Nightmare journey to get there, but a great talk at today's Essex Egyptology Group meeting by Carol Andrews on Ancient Egyptian jewellery.

As an aside, it turns out that Carol Andrews wrote one of the first two books I got about Ancient Egypt, as a kid. Good to see she's still going strong!

Running on top of the world (or that's how it felt), yesterday morning - with M, Jo and Chris.

With yesterday evening's run. I've completed my major running goal for the year - I have run a half marathon every month (and two in Feb).

They've all pushed my limits, and they haven't really got any easier. So I'm really pleased to have done something I wouldn't have believed I could, even last year, but it's with a grimace not a grin.

New shoes! His 'n' hers. Should keep us going for the next half a year, at least ☺️

Last night's run took me to over 1000km so far this year - one of my running goals for the year. Not an overly ambitious one, but I'm still pleased :)

Ran my 50th parkrun today! Started at the front and ran my fastest ever 400m ... then paid for it for the rest of the run ;) Finished in 25:28 in the end.

Great North Run

We ran the Great North Run on Sunday! Not just me, +Margaret Patterson and my sister +Joanne Illingworth got places too and it was great to do an event like this together.

Any half marathon is tough, but I found this one tougher than I expected. Somehow it felt like the whole run was long uphill grind, even though I know it wasn't really.

But it's the biggest half marathon race in the world ... the atmosphere was brilliant, the support all along the route was wonderful (people are so kind!), and it was amazing running across the Tyne Bridge, and seeing the Red Arrows' display afterwards!

We ran the Ipswich Twilight 10k on Friday. A great event, with a course of two laps around the centre of Ipswich, taking in the football stadium and the high street, and lots of people out cheering the thousand-ish of us on along the way. The highlight for me was that the Suffolk School of Samba were out again, performing in the Cornhill, and giving us a real lift when I needed it most (just after the only real hill on the route!).

I set my PB for 10k at last year's Twilight run, and I've not really got close to it since, and didn't expect to on the night. But after going a bit too fast for the first lap (which felt great, until it didn't) and surviving the second lap, I beat it - by one second. 51:12 - I'll take that!
