Foiling the Flaw of Averages
Introduction
An independent consultant with a twenty-year practice focused on analysis, design and planning. I'm also pretty good with simulation and models in Excel.

My clients have included a large fraction of the Canadian federal government's departments and a few high-tech companies.

My earlier experience includes over a decade of marketing technology roles at Xerox, and senior management in two high-tech start-ups.

I'm working on foiling the flaw of averages and fixing the systemic errors in process and project estimates that put us behind schedule, over budget, and below expectations.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

The main problem with this approach is that you'll only find what you are looking for.

The essential scientific expression is "Hmm. That's strange." That's why we treat possible correlation as a pointer to what might be interesting science and why we should be sending people, not robots.
http://xkcd.com/1289/ Chris Anderson, former editor in chief of Wired was clear about it in his provocative essay “The End of Theory: The Data Deluge Makes the Scientific Method Obsolete”. He states that with enough data, com...

The Quest for Universal Mediocrity
Every committee or organization has at least one well-meaning person who is pushing to make things more average. "On behalf of the masses, the uncommitted, the ones who don't care, we need to dumb this down, smooth out the edges...

If we wait long enough, global warming will return. We just need to be patient.
