Even with great reviews, "Edge of Tomorrow" failing to connect with moviegoers...
Tom Cruise is the big draw for "Edge of Tomorrow," opening Friday, but estimates say he won't be enough. What does this say about the ability of star power to fuel big hits?

The making of the movie based on "Unbroken."
OXENFORD, Australia — Angelina Jolie was ready to step behind the cameras again. Her directing debut, "In the Land of Blood and Honey," hadn't been a box-office or critical hit, but making the 2011 Bosnian war drama had fueled her desire to become a filmmaker. So Jolie started looking for a follow-up movie, knowing she had to choose carefully.

Story about the movie based on Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell's "Lone Survivor."
"Lone Survivor" writer-director Peter Berg is a man who values accuracy. In adapting former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell's nonfiction account of a disastrous military mission in Afghanistan, Berg enlisted a group of the elite force as technical advisors and granted them an uncommon degree of authority on set, even allowing them to call cut if the smallest detail felt wrong to them.

Should JJ Abrams take a page out of Peter Jackson's "LOTR" playbook when it comes to "Star Wars" secrecy?
J.J. Abrams, the director of next year’s “Star Wars” sequel, sent a clever tweet on Wednesday about leaked set photos. Here's why he should continue sharing with fans.

Little movies with large names
At its inception 30 years ago, the Sundance Film Festival was dedicated to low-budget films made outside the studio system, a celebration of fresh cinematic voices telling daring, imaginative stories. Back then Hollywood stars barely factored into the equation.
