Prismatic

Well actually I think the colors are more due to interference of light in the minute thickness of the bubble walls but that doesn't make for a very nice sounding title. :-)

And the #macromonday  team are taking a break but this seems like such a colorful image to brighten your Monday I just had to share!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

The geometry of nature

Quite beautiful I think.

For the #bwproject26  theme this Friday of bubbles!

Note: With the recent changes to the plan I'm not sure if the curators want to be plus mentioned so I'll just leave it with the hashtag for now.

John Wesley Powell stood here

Well maybe. On my recent road trip to Wyoming I made a quick stop at Dinosaur National Monument and drove all the way out to this overlook spot where the Yampa River joins the Green River. If you look at the map data you'll see what I mean. It's a 30 mile drive from the visitor center to the overlook parking and then a mile hike to this spot. It's an amazing view of some amazingly tortured geology. You can just see the green river coming in left of image center and the Yampa River is right of center. They join behind the ridge known as Steamboat Rock named by the Powell expedition.

The amazing thing about my title is he may have actually stood here. In his account of the 1869 expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers he describe climbing numerous ridges to survey the surrounding terrain. The most amazing thing to me is he did this all with only one arm! He lost an arm during his service in the Civil War!

I imagine this view has changed little from the time of Powell's expedition.

Shut 'er down Clancy

Well it's time to shut this computer down and pack her up for a few days as I make my move. I just though I'd let you all know I will likely be absent for a few days. I'm not much of a mobile user and I don't imagine I'll have much time with all the packing and such...

So have fun boys and girls! And don't do anything I wouldn't do! Which isn't a whole lot! :-)

One last Grand View

Went for a bike ride to my favorite hilltop last weekend and it was a beautiful day! Since I'm moving back to California I just had to see it one more time!

Sadly this is a cropped cell phone shot so not the best quality but it was such a gorgeous day I just had to share it.

Magic Lantern

Plus post for the #LightWIT  mentorship by +Eric Raeber

One of our final assignments was to reverse engineer a photo we liked. I had recently seen this great tutorial by Gavin Hoey and thought it would be fun to recreate and add my own touch.

http://www.gavtrain.com/?p=2873

This is another example of a photo I would not have made if it weren't for the amazing inspiration you get from participating in the fantastic meteorships as part of the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers! The mentors, the helpers, the participants are all amazing and inspiring! And it's just the magic I needed to help me take my photos to a new level!

So thank you very much Eric and all you wonderful people that have participated in this amazing mentorship!

Here's some cool data for you as the New Horizons craft approaches Pluto. :-)

Current velocity of the craft relative to Pluto is almost 31,000 MPH! Kinda puts Mr' Toads Wild Ride to shame... :-)
NASA's first mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. Includes mission details and educational resources.

Now that's customer service! I had been trying to get an oil change for a couple days but the place was busy so I came in early the following morning. Phil checked me in and said it would be under an hour. It took over two! Without even saying a word Phil comped my service and said that was for the long wait! Now that's how to treat a customer! Way to go Phil!
