EXCLUSIVE: the collected works of Hayao Miyazaki are finally coming to blu-ray! #StudioGhibli   #animation   #miyazaki
Where would we be without Hayao Miyazaki? Not only has the Japanese filmmaker made the most beautiful animated movies in the world, he's made some of the most beautiful movies ever-- period. That's why it was so heartening to hear the recent news that, at seventy-four years of age (when most men golf or garden or simply groan), Miyazaki is making another movie. In the meantime, fans can experience a few gems from his career they most likely haven...

I took Emery to the zoo a couple weeks ago when her daycare was on vacation. I didn't take a ton of photos, but here are a few.

Pipetting
+Brittany Forrest needed to stop by work for a few minutes today, so she brought me and +Emery Forrest to check out her new lab. While "spiking" some water, Britty gave Emery a pipette tip and Emery really wanted to help.

Just wanted to point out that my lab coat still says "Visitor" because my embroidered one hasn't arrived yet. I didn't break into someone else's lab with my family and start messing with their science! :P

The Fourth of July at the Mapps'
We all went up to the Mapps' house yesterday for some Fourth of July action. This was actually Emery's first time seeing fireworks and she had a blast.

Great photos, I'm glad that Emery enjoyed herself. I love hearing her say "what is that", "lets go find it" , and "good job Will".

Miseries and Misfortunes
Luke Crane, creator of The Burning Wheel RPG, just put out a free supplement for Basic D&D that lets you play in 17th century Paris, but with magic! I've always wanted to play a D&D campaign that includes muskets, so I'm definitely going to check this out.

Parts of it remind me of Darkest Dungeon (mechanically...but also setting).

Dragon Patrol Encounter
In our last D&D game, the party spotted a red dragon flying in the distance. Instead of hiding like most of the party, the dwarf and the minotaur stood in the middle of the road and pulled a "Come at me, bro!" In this photo, you can see the dwarf has already been knocked out. The six PCs are all level 4 (ignore the levels written on their player cards in the background) and they had two NPC allies. Even though the dragon was a CR 10 (with two CR 1 draconian riders), the party was able to down him with no casualties. The druid's entangle spell really helped since the dragon refused to spend a whole action to break free. When I went into this fight, I was certain multiple people would die or even a TPK, but I am instead surprised with the outcome. Good memorable fight!

Emery Loves Painting
+Emery Forrest has a lot of fun painting and is still developing a technique of her own. Sometimes she's dual wielding brushes, other times she's gripping multiple brushes in one hand. It's fun watching her explore!

A couple weeks ago, we rented out a little cabin on Whidbey Island in order to have a little miniature vacation. We mostly hung out around the cabin and drove around exploring the island. Emery especially loved riding on the ferry!

Star Wars I-III: A Phantom Edit
Found this edit on Reddit. It is supposed to recreate the mythical Topher Grace edit of the prequels. At just over two hours, it makes the prequels actually palatable, focusing on Anakin as the main character.

Typical Starbucks, though bathroom requires a code and there's a large pillar right in front of the counter. Friendly staff.

Recently came here for a murder mystery dinner party, which was a blast. The buildings have a lot of character and really helped set the scene for the event. I was surprised that our room did not have a bathroom or a fridge. The bathrooms down the hall were fine, and the provided robes made the experience a little fun. But without a fridge, my daughter's baby food went to waste. I didn't research the place, but had I known ahead of time, I would have brought a cooler or something. Also, I barely got any sleep. The walls are thin and everything creaks. In addition, drunk people outside and the nearby rail line provided plenty of noise to keep us up. I think I'd like to visit again, especially now that I know what's in store for me. I will just be more prepared.

The Blizzards tend to be hit and miss with these guys at this location. Sometimes, they are well blended. Other times, the Blizzards are chunky. In addition, they have tip jar taped to the outside of the building in the drive-thru line. For a typical fast food joint, a tip jar is just insulting.

I've been to this Starbucks multiple times and it is great. There is plenty of seating and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. More specifically, today I spilled my coffee while holding my daughter. The barista gladly made me replacement drink, and another staff member chatted me up while she happily cleaned up my mess. They are awesome!

I've been here for hockey games a few times, and I think it is a great arena. Just found out it has a community ice skating rink separate from the main rink, so I will have to take advantage of that with my family some time. Parking can be tricky, and the only reason why I didn't give this five stars.
