Pat yourselves on the back! CNN readers funded this public service announcement about trafficking of the endangered #pangolin  - and I'm told it soon will air on national TV in Vietnam!! So excited. You guys are for-real making difference out there in this big-bad world. #changethelist

Great work... People are clear that capturing, breeding, enslaving, killing, raping, torturing and enslaving animals is wrong, yet..... we eat 56 billion land and hundreds of billions of sea animals per year. When will we connect the dots and see the irony in that we love some animals with all of our hearts and some with all of our stomachs...??? How about a story on that John?? You do such great work. You could make a big difference in this area as well.

"Empathy isn't just something that happens to us -- a meteor shower of synapses firing across the brain -- it's also a choice we make: to pay attention, to extend ourselves." -- Leslie Jamison

My piece on #ebola and empathy, for CNN.
The world's response to Ebola is its own sort of tragedy.

I'm a day late posting it here, but thought I'd share it in case you're interested in the environmental arguments for cutting back on meat consumption. I'm landing in a place of moderation on this ..
Is it possible to eat meat in modern-day America, consider yourself an environmentalist and sleep soundly without being a hypocrite?

WOW... I just read this article and am REALLY taken back about how much this feels like a joke to you John.. You write so much about climate change, pollution, sexism, racism etc and are DEEPLY failing to see the correlation between all of them and consuming the flesh and fluids of animals..
JOHN .... IM CALLING YOU OUT BROTHER...   Where is the INTEGRITY for one who spends so much time as a cheerleader for environmentalism and stills participates in the NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF IT EVERY DAY ..???  I deeply believe that anyone who is TRULY committed to living a life of integrity around our environment, speaking out so beautifully about peoples of the world that are going without food, how a dominant gender/ethnicity/race enslaves, rapes, murders, etc other human beings, the IMMENSE pollution and resource irresponsibility of the animal ag biz.... John I just gotta say it my man.. You are full of shit... With love,,,, you are full of shit.. AND it is someone like YOU that can get what I am sharing.. I am sharing this man to man heart to heart fighter to fighter... we are HERE to make a difference in this world John... How can we do so if we are the ones causing it?? YOU are exposing beautiful things that YOU SUPPORT ... YOU support the meat and dairy industry and your excuse for doing so is because you "tried vegetarianism and it didn't work"... Desire, convenience and habit trumped your integrity my friend.. You sold out your life work for the momentary pleasure of something delicious gliding across your tongue.. And for those MOMENTS you are responsible for a LIFETIME of suffering, rape and slaughter while simultaneously paying for meals that use 34X more resources than a Vegan meal as well as being the SINGLE GREATEST POLLUTING INDUSTRY ON THE PLANET>. THIS... is not something to laugh at John.. Its not within your greatest good to make light of just how good the carcass of a chicken tastes that has suffered a lifetime in hell for your desire... NOT NECESSITY>. Id love to hear back from you..

Great to have so many people dedicated to saving animals that they love with their heart but ironic that it doesn't include the ones that they love with their stomach? I dont want to slam thereat efforts to save even one animal but I have endless "head scratching" moments to know that these folks who are spending so much time effort eery rescues money etc ons saving some animals will do so with the rotting flesh and fluids of other animals that live their entire lives in holocaust type existence to satisfy desires NOT necessity. I wonder if these great people could ever look at the animals they pay to be killed in the eye and say "my desire is more important than your suffering".. I wonder.  Go VEGAN ....

My latest for CNN: Mauritania needs to drop these charges against a 15-year-old girl who was rescued from modern  #slavery .
Imagine being rescued from modern slavery, only to be charged with a crime.

Our world is evolving to be clear that ownership over any human is horrific and unjust. We all want freedom, peace and joy and when the day comes where even the enslaved see that their meals of animal flesh and fluid came from the EXACT same belief that one being is better, more relevant, more important than another, then we will begin to lift higher and free our consciousness of the painful afflictions of racism, sexism and speciesism and begin to live into our truth.

Do you think the world's response to ‪#‎Ebola‬ is racist? Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Here's what Kofi Annan told the BBC: "If the crisis had hit some other region it probably would have been handled very differently." Agree? Disagree? Any why? Writing a piece for CNN..

On Sunday I had the privilege to meet with the mother of a 9-year-old boy who died one year ago today in the Moore, Oklahoma, tornado, likely because his school didn't have a storm shelter. His mother, Danni Legg, has spent the last year tirelessly advocating for the state to put storm shelters in all schools. I hope someone listens to her. #okwx
The mother of a child killed in the Moore, Oklahoma, tornado a year ago is pushing for storm shelters in schools, with little luck, writes CNN's John D. Sutter.

My take on yesterday's botched execution , which I hope will be a wake-up call to Oklahoma and other US states that support the death penalty.
It's an unreal scene, like one from a horror film.

VERY sad and disgusting.. Multiply that by 56 BILLION land animals and hundreds of billions of sea animals and then you will get a sense of just how tragically mindless our species murders animals everyday.. for what?? DESIRE CONVENIENCE AND HABIT.. NOT necessity.. There are and have been COUNTLESS Vegans that THRIVE since the beginning of time.
I feel for the families of all sides... who lost one to murder and for the ones that have to live with the fact that their loved one is a murderer.. VERY horrific species we can be...
