Support this anthology of funny sf short stories on Kickstarter. It's so close to making its goal with only an hour and a half left on the clock.

The guy running @sweden this week was born in Iraq but has lived most of his life in Sweden. He's been posting some interesting stuff on Twitter, including the idea of him as a 'homeopathic Swede', so I wrote a blog post inspired by some of what he's said. Homeopathic patriotism is a great concept!

Today, the Court of Justice of the European Union made an interesting ruling that affects anyone who has ever bought downloaded software; to find out more read my blog post on the subject.

An Ipswich councillor posted a rant about how she hates experts and trusts her gut in all matters, and deleted it (presumably after realising it was bollocks). I think it's important that people can read this sort of thing, so I decided to duplicate the blog entry and allow people to read it at their leisure.
Now, I like transparency, and so I went hunting for the article and managed to find Google's cache of the page in question, which was originally posted over at a blog called Ipswich Politics but has s...

"You may not instantly see why I bring the subject up, but that is because my mind works so phenomenally fast, and I am at a rough estimate thirty billion times more intelligent than you. Let me give you an example. Think of a number, any number."
"Er, five," said the mattress.
"Wrong," said Marvin. "You see?"
The mattress was much impressed by this and realized that it was in the presence of a not unremarkable mind.

I wrote a blog post on 3D printing and what might happen to companies like Games Workshop as a result.
Something I've wanted to write a blog post on for a while is the transition from the old to the new. Let me expand on this a little bit. What's happened is easy to explain: Before I was born 1, there ...

I'm looking for information on a couple of Leicester pubs. Does anyone happen to know whether the Ship Inn (on Soar Lane) or the Foresters Arms (on Frog Island) are still going?

The previous review written in about June 2013 is incorrect; Tabletop Tyrant is on the opposite side of the street to what is currently the New Covenant Church and still sells a variety of wargames miniatures including Games Workshop at 20% off.

I walked twenty minutes from the bus stop in town to get to a shop that claimed to be open on Mondays to find it shut. If you are closed on bank holidays there should be a note on your website next to your opening times that says that!

Cask-conditioned beer on tap is something that is worth a mention in any American city, but the friendly service and good food seal the deal!

A great tiki bar, which is made so much better by the care and attention that has clearly gone into the interior design, the cocktail recipes and the menu itself. The menu walks you through the range of cocktails available, from the classic tiki drinks (the piña colada in a coconut is a particular favourite of mine) to mocktails designed for the designated driver or your friend who doesn't drink. The sharers round the selection out - anything between a £10, two-pint choice and the £135 concoction that quite literally comes in a kitchen sink. If you order that last one, you get your name on the board! The bar is nicely laid out; there's an upstairs, which I must confess I've never really explored adequately, but the downstairs is deceptively large, housing several tables as well as a small dance floor. If you arrive early enough you'll be able to get table service from one of the bar staff, since things start fairly quietly and make having a quiet cocktail with a few friends a breeze. If you're there later, things get busy pretty quickly: 9pm seems to be the point at which things go from being fairly relaxed to pretty hectic, with the bar staff doing a brilliant job of keeping up. All in all, if you're looking for a quirky venue in Leicester and you want to sip a cocktail with an umbrella in your hair, this is a great place to do it!
