I never saw this Steam issue, but I didn't game much over the weekend.

The biggest gripe as usual is that Steam completely failed to communicate anything. It seems odd to not tweet about it, even if only after it was fixed.

"Only one quarter of post-9/11 veterans managed to attain a degree before blowing through their GI Bill benefits" -- That isn't surprising, since fewer that 40% of all students graduate in four years, and there is a bias toward them not working, which is unlikely for people in school on the GI bill. It is around 60% at six years.  I have always thought the GI bill should be for 6 years, not 4.

It probably doesn't help that Veterans don't like to self-identify as such on most campuses, since an overwhelming majority of faculty tend to be very anti-military.
Veterans Day highlights the the sky-high dropout rates for veterans attending college. But new college 'boot camps' are helping vets transition to a new life of classroom debates and selfies.

I did serve in the Army, and the GI bill is how I paid for most of college.  I took loans to get through my last year of college, since my GI bill ran out.  So yeah, I identified with this.

On top of disconnecting randomly about 4x a day, Cox is now calling me about twice a month to get cable TV.  No means no, asshats.   l am tempted to switch to CenturyLink just to send the message to Cox.  Do you know anyone use CenturyLink as their ISP, and what do they think of them?

I've had CenturyLink for two years now.  I was using their 40 mb/20 mb service at the apartment, and it was rock solid.  When I moved, they didn't have the infrastructure to support 40/20, so I'm at 20/5 or so.  It's still been rock solid, and I've not had to deal with their customer service except to move.  At that time, I tried to downgrade my service as my promotion ran out, and the rep just gave me the promo for a year again as I was a "valued customer."

My IP address changes way more frequently than with e.g. Cox, but that's a minor issue and not part of any residential service.  To boot, I am using a second-hand $30 VDSL2 modem from eBay, and it's working flawlessly.

Their GPON/fiber service is what I'm anxious for, though that is taking forever to reach east Omaha.

My only gripe would be that they didn't bury the DSL line (granted, it was mid November when they dropped it), and they still haven't.  I'm going to have to call them to get that done I imagine.

I bundle DirectTV with them (saves me $10 on billing), as well as Verizon Wireless (another $5).  I still receive constant "Get Prism!" waste in the mail, but no phone calls.  They didn't try to up-sell me once.

I always liked that +Plamen Petrov finally just told me to install and run Linux in the all Window's shop, as long as I could do my job, I should use the tools that made me the most effective.

Turns out, I found and fixed tons of bugs that were hiding.  I converted ~2-3M lines of Java to be safe to run under Linux in less than 7-8 days of effort over the 4  years I ran Linux there day to day.  JOGL and Eclipse made most of that trivial.  Dumb path construction bugs were the majority of it.  I think there was only one camera DLL I never found a Linux solution for.  But I never worked on that project.

"Lenovo may be saying they haven't installed Superfish since December, but the problem is that they are still shipping out systems with Superfish installed," Buddine said. "The Windows build had a date of December. They apparently aren't sorry enough to re-image the computers they have in stock to remove the problem and they're still shipping new computers with Superfish installed."
-- clearly, +Lenovo must be tired of selling  PCs, because this seems like a good way to get out of that business.
Assurances on the demise of the dangerous adware are (somewhat) exaggerated.

I just got done with my first playthrough of Shelter 2.  This game probably has the best production quality of any indie game I have played.  The water-color art style is a bit odd at first, but it grows on you.  The blur effect when you are running gives the feeling of real speed.   The sound and music fit the game well at every point, and conveyed emotion.  This game gets tagged as open-world survival sim, but it is on the easy end of the spectrum for that.  It has a definite victory condition and takes about 2 hours.  The goal is to get your cubs to adulthood, on my first play I lost 2 of the 4 pretty quickly, but that was more about trying to figure it out than anything else.  The controls are pretty simple, but learning how to catch rabbits or deer consistently takes practice.  I will play this again, and I can't think of a higher recommendation.

I was expecting to have to go back to the den and for there to be a day/night cycle. Being out and about the whole time kind of threw me off. I kept coming back to the den, but it seems not important. Only time it was useful was to put the sick cub in while I hunted, but that failed anyway.

I'll have to check out the mountains and wolves. I caught a few pheasant though. There was one point where I caught 4 rabbit in one sprint (hold shift and left click to drop). Got lucky there, lol. You jump further going down hill... :)

I love watching +NHL  hockey, but ever since the lockout season (2012) TV coverage has been [more] awful.  Games 3 & 4 are on NBCSN, a name I didn't know, but it is the current branding of OLN / VS.  I am not going to invest 2 games time only to miss the next 2, possibly including the final game.

Prior to the 2004 lockout season, the entire playoffs got broadcast network coverage.  Coverage was so good that I got to watch all but 2 Sharks playoff games in the 03 season ( they played in the finals that year ).  I saw more playoff hockey that year than all the ones since.

I am probably going to at least load cyanogen on mine.  Ever since the 5.x upgrades my Nexus 7 runs like crap.  There are some instructions for downgrading to 4.4, but a custom ROM is just as easy to install, if not easier.
