FROM: EDINBURGH ENLIGHTENED
TO: INGRESS COMMUNITY
SUBJECT/SITUATION REPORT: EDINBURGH LIGHTNING STRIKE
ADDITIONAL: CAKE, CIDER, FROSTBITE

Well done everyone! A glorious victory that shall echo through eternity and haunt the Edinburgh Resistance from this day forth. On Saturday afternoon each member of our fellowship embarked upon on a grand adventure! A rollercoaster ride of thrilling endeavour and sporting ballet on XM soaked fields.

Seriously - well done!

Background:

The Scottish Enlightenment (Scots: Scots Enlichtenment, Scottish Gaelic: Soilleireachadh na h-Alba) was the period in 18th century Scotland characterised by an outpouring of intellectual and scientific accomplishments.

In Scotland, the Enlightenment was characterised by a thorough going empiricism and practicality where the chief qualities were; improvement, virtue, and practical benefit for the individual and society as a whole. It was asserted that it was of fundamental importance that humans must defend their choice through a combination of active scientific reason and the rejection of any authority that could not be justified by reason. They held to an belief in the ability of humanity to effect changes for the better in society and nature, guided only by reason. Today the Enlightened aim to uphold these noblest of principles.

Execution:

At 4 pm on Saturday the 31st of January 2015, nearly 70 UK Enlightened from far and wide joined together to once again benefit society  by repeating history and bringing Enlightenment, virtue and improvement to the blue menace of Edinburgh. In the space of only a couple of minutes over 150 portals were neutralized, captured, modded, linked and fielded.

Several aftershocks were felt over the next 48 hours as the voracious Enlightened agents, fueled by the vast quantities of the finest ice cream in the land, sought out blue portals in every corner of the city and crushed any resistance found.

I wonder if we'll be playing #Ingress in 10 years time?

72 days 8 hours 17 minutes and 31 seconds

That's how long, over the last 10 years, I've spent adventuring with my main +World of Warcraft character - a female human paladin, unoriginally called Silverleaf.

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/zenedar/Silverleaf/simple

Although she never speaks, she is somehow in my mind the most real virtual character I've ever encountered. I've 'known' her for a third of my life, significantly longer than I've known my wife. Thanks to Philip Kollar at +Polygon for the article that inspired me to reflect on what has been, on and off, a decade of fun.

Although these days I don't really have much time to play games, I can see myself posting something similar in November 2024. Here's to the next 10 years +Blizzard Entertainment!

These amazing little traffic lights that let you play PONG with the person waiting on the other side of the street were officially installed this week in a German town. See more at the link.

So, about that terrible Barbie book that was making the rounds yesterday... someone's already remixed it, making it infinitely more awesome.

Check out the whole thing: https://cfiesler.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/barbieremixed.pdf

Faux gory, almost live over-acting. Mostly dark so you don't really see anything. Probably more fun for the younger kids.

Our serving platter for starters came with a shard of broken glass, the table behind us was served with a cracked wine glass, one of our mains came without coleslaw (replaced quickly), and the spaghetti was over cooked. Meatballs were quite good.

Very quiet, which seemed a shame as the food was simple but tasty. Not a huge range on offer but well prepared and very friendly staff.
